This is a continuation of the original thread about our 2003 Wacko Badges. This very special (and very limited edition) of Harbour Lights related items will help to preserve Bodie Island Light, the light selected by Forum members to be represented on the Wacko pin. Every penny we can raise to help this light will help to preserve a great piece of our maritime history. Maybe one day we will see this light re-opened for climbing because we helped. Allow me to borrow from Mombo's post in the original thread: "The purpose of the badge is to help identify ourselves when we attend signings, regionals, any time more than one wacko is to be in attendance. You do not have to be an official wacko to purchase one. So if your spouse, kids, mother-in-law are going to tag along get them a badge. The money all goes to the lighthouse. In order not to forget to bring your badge to events you may decide to wear it all the time. That's ok as they should be waterproof. (You may want to tuck it inside your clothing when riding public transportation, attending peace rallies, animal rights protests, etc.) Anyone caught ordering a badge and not wearing it to an event by another badge carrying wacko will have to face the consequences." (There is a lot more info on this project on the above link, including how to get the opportunity to win a 11" x 14" print of the Bruce Roberts image used on the badge. How often do you get to see an OBX light surrounded by snow???) You can order just a badge ($6) or badge and a lanyard with "Harbour Lights Wacko" printed all along it's length ($9). Shipping is include. You will have the option to use PayPal to pay for your purchase, or you will be directed where to send your payment. If you send payment via mail, please be sure to include your screen name and mailing info on a seperate piece of paper with your check! We have also created a spin off of this project, giving you the opportunity to purchase a 11" x 14" copy of this great photo. Full details can be found here . Dave

Ruthie,
I think the consequences Mombo had in mind probably involved significant purchase of Krispy Kremes as well as having to pay the Wacko's bar bill at the next gathering.
All badges ordered thru late last week (and paid for) have been mailed. Most were mailed Saturday, few mailed this morning.

No badges here yet. If they are coming UPS or FedEx I'll expect them to be delivered around June or July.

Dave,
I wore my Badge at the Event today in Hillsborough.
It went over well with several of the other attendees- both visually and in it's purpose.
I pushed both the Badge and the Wacko Pins- Ishowed them the Southeast block and Morris Island pins.
I may have gotten a few more people to stop in and check out the forums.

Way to go Dennis!
This is just what we need. WACKOs talking up the Collector Forums where ever they go. And the badges are a perfect 'conversation starter'
Our membership has really grown quite a bit in the last couple of weeks and I've gotten indications that some of that growth is from people attending events and learning about the Forums from people talking it up.
Keep up the good work, gang!!

Thanks for serving as one of our roving ambassadors, Dale. The badges are noticeable, and Bill recognizes them right away. By chance, was he wearing his badge? As we all know, the more badges and pins and prints we move, the more money we raise to help the Bodie Island Light, so thanks all for your help.

Wear your badge to school, Peter. Then you can get not only your students but also your administrators talking about you and your sanity!
Glad that everyone is getting some good use from their badges. Remember that we are doing this to help preserve Bodie Island Light, so buy early and buy often!

Lanyards were here when I got home last night! Jim, yours is in the mail as of this morning, as are those for everyone who ordered and paid as of yesterday. The folks at the post office just hate the weird envelopes when they contain lanyards. One person tried to tell me they were too thick to be considered standard mail, so I wrapped them a little more snugly. . . Thanks everyone for a great start. Don't forget we have a regional event coming up in less than a month and you want to be sure you aren't "out of uniform" for it! While you are ordering, don't forget your pin and print so we can help Bodie Island get restored!

Don't forget that to be eligible to win one of the great Bruce Roberts prints you have to order your badge by April 15th. For all you folks planning on going to the Florida Regional event, you need to think about getting that badge ordered so you can get it in time. Do you want to be the only Wacko there without a current name badge????

Hey Dave...
You were probably busy last evening tearing up all those bogus IRS returns. Now you can just write the names of the WACKOs who have ordered badges on those scraps and...
Pick a winner of the Bruce Roberts limited edition photo that appears on our badges.
Don't forget I paid for Bill, Nancy, and Kim's badges in case their names come up as winners. And did I pay for Little Red's badge too?
Maybe you can announce the winner at the Wednesday night chat. And tell us then how much our WACKO badges have raised for Bodie so far.
Everybody wear your badges to the chat tonight @ 9 PM ET.
P.S. Got any lanyards left?

Fortunately and serendipitously, I didn't think this "Part 2" thread would have the link to buy (never even noticed it said badge), So I went to the Wacko "pin" thread and ordered from there...then posted my confirmation here. So I think I'm all set. Thanks for the heads-up, though.

Sorry I wasn't at last night's chat. Heather & I were at King's Point on a college visit and didn't get homw 'till way late last night. I will figure out how we are going to pick a winner of the wonderful picture by the end of the weekend. Everyone who had orders in by the time I came homw last night will be in the drawing.
By the way, Bill, since you used our badge thread to tell folks you ordered a Wacko pin, I know you are also planning to order a badge. . . .

Well, so far we have sold 146 Wacko Badges. John plugged that number into his random number generator. The winning number selected by John's random number generator is #78. The winner of a copy of the Bruce Roberts Bodie Island print is . . . . . . continued in part 3
