Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will be flashing tonight & has weathered yet another storm!
From visual reports, the lighthouse does not show any visible damage, and there was no glass blown out as in previous storms.
Cape Lookout, Bodie Island and Ocracoke also appear to be in good shape. There has not been time to get structural reports, but those will be done.
The Keeper's Weekend Celebrating 200 Years of Light at Cape Hatteras will go on as planned. Now it will be an even more special occasion, as we celebrate Cape Hatteras surviving Isabel!.
We, the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society, join with the entire lighthouse community in thanking the Park Service for moving Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to safety when it did!
For all those planning to attend the Keeper's Weekend, Oct.17-18th, please get your dinner reservations in now. We expect this to be a sell-out, and early reservations will secure your seating. Be sure to also order your raffle tickets by email castleberry1@comcast.net
This will be a special time, because of everyone pulling together from the aftermath of Isabel.
The Keeper's Weekend will be a memorable time in a memorable year, and possibly the best we, the OBLHS, have ever held.
Please make your plans now to join us. There will be plenty of rooms available for you to stay, and the Outer Banks welcomes you!

Shirin, the park service informed OBLHS yesterday that the grounds will reopen next week, and they will be welcoming us on the 18th.
Also, even though the water you see in the photo looks alarming, the water on the move path and around the area does not in any way endanger the foundation for the light. Flooding like this was planned for.
However, once the park rangers were able to get in and do a visual inspection of the tower, there is a lot of glass that was blown out of the lantern room. The aerial photos didn't show this because it was on the other side from the camera lense.
