A tugboat, and it's four barges struck a pillar to the causeway.
This causeway connects South Padre Island to the mainland of Texas. In fact to Port Isabel, TX. I've driven it many times, as my son was a resident of So.Padre Isl. and a charter fishing captain for Murphys Charters. He and his new wife decided to move to Dallas to work with his brother last May, and was in the area only last weekend, to visit.
This causeway is 2 miles long, and he has given me a tour by boat under the bridge. It is designed for large vessels (tall) to sail right under it without a problem.
We don't like to hear of anymore tragedys, but if one had a notion to visit Port Isabel lighthouse, note that you will run into some problems if you wanted to enjoy So. Padre Island.
