I couldn't get to any of these links. Tried again on yours, Dave, and it worked.

It's a great light with lots of beautiful features. Hope a good group acquires it.

Probably just good today, but shorten Sooner's link to just the paper www.pall-times.com/ and the story about the light is on the main page. Sooner's link is correct but you can't go directly to it for some reason. Friday and after you can probably use their archive search to find the article.

New article today from www.pall-times.com Feds: It's All a Misunderstanding. GSA says it wants to give away Oswego's historical lighthouse.

Sad thing is that the lady making the initial announcement that it was to be demolished was working with unverified third hand information. Moral of that story is check your facts before you shout that the sky is falling. The published NOA is very clear in its statements, and is the standard template used by the DOI for all lighthouse NOAs.
From this article it appears that either no one in the community has actually read the published NOA or they just don't understand it. They are condcerned that they must put in a notice of interest within 60 days. That process should take a good admin person less than 10 minutes to do, including getting the acting mayor's signature. How hard is it to write "The city of Oswego is interested in the Oswego Harbor West Pierhead Lighthouse" and then adding in contact information and the mayor's signature block? That's all that has to be done in the 60 day window. They do that they get an application which they can then choose to complete or not.
I hope that they are able to get things sorted out and start to work on a plan to obtain and properly care for the light.
P.S. - if you have problems with the links in my posting above (I did just now) right click, copy the link and paste it into a window.

But if bobody wanted the four lights that went up for Auction a few months back why would they want Sharps Island? I like how the picture in the Availability Notice is from a side that the lean isn't as noticible though.
