This issue has probably already been discussed, and I may have missed it due to a busy summer. I just bought a tan Beavertail but now I see more gray. I realize this is a paint variation. Is one more collectible than the other? Also which version is more correct? Thanks for your help.

The first 3,000 Beavertail RI had the tower a peachy-tan color, the result of seeing too many photos of it taken at sunset when the gray granite blocks take on that hue. (Many of those who took photos at the Reunion say the tower came out tan in their photos.)

The balance of the run (total of 9,500) will have gray towers.

Generally a company-ordered color change is considered a 'variation' by collectors and with the proportions roughtly one-third tan vs. two-thirds gray, the tan version may SOMEDAY have a premium value.

Gayle, The gray tower is more correct. The paint on the earlier ones was mixed to match a photo of the tower taken when the morning sun was hitting the tower in such a way as to make it appear golden. The error was corrected, thus the gray pieces. The tan tower seems to have a special amount of interest among collectors since there are fewer tan than gray, and since the tan was admittedly an error.
