I use old newspaper archives as a research source for my genealogy endeavors. Here are headlines from a few articles I found about Florida lighthouses and their keepers.
Tampa Bay Times – Friday, February 11, 1938
Keeper of Lighthouse Missing; Feared Slain
Keeper A.J. Anderson, of the Volusia Bar Lighthouse on Lake George was found dead in the lake two days later.
The Tampa Tribune – Wednesday, March 9, 1938
Shoals Light Out (Rebecca Shoals light reported extinguished)
Tallahassee Democrat – Friday, March 18, 1938
Lighthouse Keeper Is Found Stabbed At Cape San Blas
Assistant Keeper E.W. Marler was killed on station.
Tampa Sunday Tribune – Sunday, July 5, 1925
Lighthouse Keeper for Half Century
Keeper Charles Kimball of Marquette, MI lighthouse began service in 1872.
The Weekly True Democrat (Tallahassee) – Friday, October 6, 1906
Four keepers drowned and forty-four lighthouses were lost or damaged enough to put out their lights in a hurricane the previous week (Sep 27th in the northern Gulf coast). This was NOT the hurricane that devastated the Florida Keys and work being done on the Florida East Coast railroad to Key West. That hurricane was later in October.

Jupiter Names Street in Honor of 19th Century Lighthouse Keeper
Captain Armour Way named for Keeper James A. Armour who served at Jupiter light for 36 years.
Tough duty being a lighthouse keeper. But do it well and you might get a street named after you!

Interesting. Seems like several of the headlines involved various murders. Has to be some interesting stories somewhere on those.

If you zoom in on the southern end of Lake George in Google Earth, I believe you can make out the light screwpiles still sticking out of the ground...

If you go to see the legs of Volusia Bar, don't go in the water...lots of alligators. While they don't normally attack people they can.
