Thought it might be worth mentioning that Nov 10th is the anniversary date of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald on November 10th, 1975. There's a good webpage on the Edmund Fitzgerald at the following URL:

I've been up to see this many times. The lighting of the light is really something to see. Here is a link that the Minnesota Historical Society has for this event.

I wonder how old Gordon Lightfoot is doing - he was in the hospitallast week after some undisclosed abdominal surgery. He is a bit of a 'rounder' from Orillia, Ontario (~180 miles N of Toronto). Great writer & balladeer - Ian & Sylvia, Peter, Paul, & Mary, Marty Robbins, and Roberta Flack all had hits with his songs. Orillia is a neat little area - I spent a few weekends up there years ago on another hobby retreat (A long drive from central Alabama!). His own most remembered recording was 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald', recorded after his Nov, 75 album release of 'Gord's Gold'. It was re-recorded in 88 for 'Gord's Gold II', but isn't the same sound as the radio-played version. Good ballad anyway. I enjoyed the one concert of his I've seen here - sadly, maybe 300 attendees at an amphitheater!

Incidently, did the lighthouses have anything to do with the ship's loss? That could be sad... I remember a Discovery show - I may even have it on tape - seems the ship ran 'aground' with the bottom of the lake and broke up after taking on water in the forward holds. Definitely a sad loss.

John

Bringing this back into view as a tribute to the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald who lost their lives this day in 1975 - 29 years ago.
