I noticed in the last round of auctions there were 2 HL 122 Buffalo, NY AP's, upon closer inspection of the 2 AP's they were not the same piece, they are 2 completely different molds. Then I looked back at all the rest of the "Bill's auction" pieces and found 2 more HL 122 Buffalo pieces that had been auctioned off. And of those 2 pieces there were one of each mold also.

So, are there any more of the 1st mold pieces out there ? of the 4 links I posted the last one is for the Buffalo #1 piece, but it was made in Malaysia, So if are there any other 1st mold pieces they would likely be of Canadian origin.

I also sent Harry an email to see if he had any more info on this, but I have not heard back from him yet.

Here are the links to the 4 auctions from Bill's pieces
Bill Younger's Harbour Lights * Artist Proof AP * Buffalo NY (2 of 2 Buffalo AP) (1st mold)

Bill Younger's Harbour Lights * Artist Proof AP * Buffalo NY 1991 Canada (2nd mold)

Bill Younger's Harbour Lights * Counter Sample * Buffalo NY * HL122 * 1991 (1st mold)

Bill Younger's Harbour Lights * #1 * Buffalo NY (2nd mold)(Made in Malaysia)

Looking thru completed listings on ebay I found 1 more of the "Bill's auctions" for a Canadian piece and it is a 2nd mold piece, it is #634

Bill Younger's Harbour Lights * Flag # 634 * Buffalo NY 1991 Canada (2nd mold)

Good Catch Mark.
First of all your first two links are backwards. Mold 2 should be 1 and 1 should be two.

I would say the two counter samples (Mold I) were the first made and they were rejected.

The Canadian AP(mold II) was accepted, and probably was sent back from the factory for Harbour lights approval, and was kept for quality control.

The #1 and 634 are the standard Buffalo's which you call mold II

Daniel, I fixed the links.

Since the #1 piece was Malaysian made and #634 in Canada, I think there is a possibility that there are more of the mold 1 type in the early low numbers, since the #1 is a Malaysian inserted in between Canadians.

I also wonder if that mold 1 piece was a California piece that was already in "pre-production" before they switched to Canada and it was just started again from scratch. just wondering since the two mold 1 pieces have the grey felt and one of them had a brown box all though the other has a blue box marked #1467 (obviously not it's original box)

I emailed Harry over this past weekend so hopefully I'll hear back from Harry soon and hopefully he can shed some light on it.

In the above about the Flag 1
Since the #1 piece was Malaysian made and #634 in
Canada, I think there is a possibility that there
are more of the mold 1 type in the early low numbers,
since the #1 is a Malaysian inserted in
between Canadians.

Doesn't the below answer why a number 1 can be intermixed

From Rich Felter (FLACOASTIE)
HL COMPLETE PRODUCT LIST

**Number 1’s**
The Youngers usually kept the first 10 production pieces of
each replica off the manufacturing line. These pieces were
serialized #1 thru #10 and kept for special circumstances.
Number 1 was for Bill’s personal collection and Nancy
usually kept the last production piece for her personal
collection. However, in some cases the standing orders for
the dealers were the priority and serial numbers #1 thru
#10 were taken from the second shipment of production
pieces. A Number 1 doesn’t always mean it was the first
piece being produced.

There are more examples of a flag 1 not being a first piece from the ebay auctions

The flag numbers used in the below is based on Last Know in

I really doubt that there is any other mold 1 except for the AP. But it is something to keep an eye on.
I also doubt that the mold 1 was a California mold or at least how we know it. The California mold pieces were the first 250 production that were under contract for the first 17 pieces from 101 to 117 with C.R. Curtis. Curtis who had a studio in California sold out early and the Production line was switched to Canada by the end of 1991. Buffalo was the 1992 production line.

A.P. Counter samples usually come from the factory with no felt at all. It is possible that the grey felt was added later at HL. Another scenario would be that another Artist sculpted the mold1. No matter where the AP sculpture came from, Tori-Dawn probably painted it.
