Just when you have seen everything in the park, you see new sights like the ones at Mammouth in the Northwest corner of the park..

We awoke yesterday to snow outside our window, it was snowing a little in Yellowstone, so we packed up and headed toward the West gate and Idaho.. Once we got to Idaho we drove out of the snow.

We were cutting across the state to visit the Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve.. It is a huge National Park as it is the size of Rhode Island..

It is made up of lava flows from fissures in the earth and not a volcano..

Attached Files

You could see forever driving across Idaho, at times the road didn't even curve for 10 or more miles..
05262010_3589.jpg (246 downloads)
The clouds were some times touching the ground as fog..
05262010_3593.jpg (245 downloads)
The lava was completely covering everything in huge areas..

Some trees still managed to grow out of it..

Today we left Idaho in a drizzle and it rained off and on but in between we did have some really nice moment driving up the east side of Oregon to our hotel in Pendleton, OR... Pendleton of Pendleton clothing fame....

1st we check out Sue's lunch, the menu said build your salad the way you want it. It didn't mention how big it would be..

Driving in the mountains of SW Oregon..

Those clouds did indeed hold a lot of water, at least we didn't need to wash the car after we arrived at our Hotel,,

Heading down, down, down into the valley and Pendleton, OR..

The view out of our 2nd floor window of our Hotel for the night... It just doesn't get any better than this trip with Sue, it just had to be said John Chidester..

Alaska, a cruise, HL reunion, meeting Bill Younger, these are 4 things I wish I could have taken off my bucket list.

Add a fifth, taken the long way and site-seeing all the way there. Priceless !!!

Having lunch right now near Portland.. We just went to some waterfalls in the area East of here and of course the only time it was rainy and overcast all morning was when we were at the waterfalls..

The drive over following the Columbia River was great.. I will load up some images when we get to our hotel..

Heceta Head, tomorrow, Bob!

I have seen some of the waterfalls along the Columbia River via a Gray Line tour. Would love to go back and take it at my own pace.

It all started when we passed a tree farm in Northeast OR. The GreenWood Tree Farm was huge growing all manner of tree for the wood..

They really do windmill farms up big time in Oregon, they went for miles and miles bordering the Columbia River area.

Is Crater Lake in your travel plans? That's a nice area, but it may still have snow.

I finally got back to internet access today, right now in Seattle waiting for our room.. I am in Derith's room which was ready, Sue's bugging me right now as we are doing laundry today until others arrive for a gathering at Anthony's for dinner as a group, then lighthousing tomorrow with 30 others..

Here's an image of Umpqua Light that I shot in the rain on May 29th so I tried an effect called single image tone mapping HDR on it..

And of course one from inside the Fresnel..

After spending the night in Amanda, WA we had breakfast at a lodge in Olympic Park, then headed North to the Makah Tribe's Museum in Neah Bay, WA.. Sue wanted to get some actual Native American crafted gifts for our Grand-daughters; we had been there in 2001, before Grand-daughters.. The flower shots are from outside the Museum, no pictures allowed inside, sorry it is a fantastic little Mueum..
