Special Notice

On August 14, 2005, the Avery Point Lighthouse Society made the following announcement:

"Due to unanticipated delays in the restoration construction, the relighting and rededication ceremony of the Avery Point Lighthouse, scheduled for September 24, 2005, has been postponed until the restoration work and installation of the dedication brick walkway are 100% complete.

The Avery Point Lighthouse Society (APLS) regrets any inconvenience which may have been caused by this postponement; however, APLS feels that the thousands of individuals who have contributed to the project deserve to have the lighthouse and walkway completed prior to any ceremony being conducted.

Once the work is completed and a new date for the ceremony is established, appropriate announcements will be made through various media sources and the APLS Web Site http://averypointlight.com."

My best,
Paul Conlin
ALF Secretary

Although I know that a lot of people are dissapointed that there won't be a relighting to go with the NELL meeting later this month, or to just visit as a stand-alone lighthouse lover, it's in all of our best interests to postpone the relighting. If they hold it off, it can be a much grander event, and there will be a lot more to celebrate.

What's better..."And we relight the lighthouse with a beacon from it's new lantern room!" or "And we relight the lighthouse from a pole on top of it, because the lantern isn't quite ready yet. Don't trip in the mud on the way out."

I'd rather have the former. wink
