Finally got to watch this movie this weekend.
WOW!

First off, this is NOT a chick flick. I would be really surprised if the guys don't like this one.

Secondly, being Hollywood, I'm sure liberties were taken in the portrayal of USCG procedures, but all in all this movie is a terrific tribute to the Coast Guard.

And even though I have never liked Ashton Kutcher and have always adored Kevin Costner, I now have a greater respect for Kutcher's acting abilities. (My feelings for Costner haven't changed.)

Watch this movie...you won't be sorry. And when you do, watch the film behind the credits in the end. There are a bunch of photos of the old Life Saving Service. You'll also see the CG rescue copter circling past a lighthouse up on a cliff.

My wife got this movies for Valentines Day for me. I watched it with some reserve as to how much "Hollywood" it would be. I was surprised at how close to real life it was. There were a few scenes that were spiced up, but, all in all it is a pleasure to see the Coast Guard being represented as an action service and one where lifesaving is the primary goal rather then a hit them, kill them mentality. All in all on a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 9. It would have been a 10 except "no one in their right minds goes into a squid bar with only 2 Coasties. In reality, it would have taken 3 Coasties to set those squids on the straight and narrow road.

It's funny, my wife and I just watched this movie Friday night! We also watched the alternate ending from the Special Features Menu...

Good movie for sure!

I agree. Like Judy I didn't care for Ashton Kutcher until I saw the movie. He did do a good job. Great to see the CG featured in a movie. Those recue swimmers are the best!

I saw it at the theater and thought it was very good. How was the alternate ending?

If I tell you...that would be like spoiling the movie for others....like telling someone how it ends...all I can tell you is I liked the alternate ending better! If you saw it in the theatre...then you probably know what I mean!

I rented this movie a couple of weeks ago. We all watched it together and I liked it. And Bill must have liked it too, because he did not pick it apart. I figured it must have been pretty close to accurate.

Rich,

Bill laughed when I read to him what you said about the Squid Bar.

As a current active duty member of the USCG, I can say that I enjoyed the movie. It actually got my heart racing a few times, and reminded me of many SAR calls I have been out on. Even though I am a "boat guy" and not a "rotorhead" wink , I enjoyed it very much.

Actually, the USCG has a Motion Picture Division that was VERY involved in the production - just to make sure things were as close to accurate as possible...

Loon,
Did you also watch the Alternate Ending on the DVD?

Yeah, I watched it. While I like the outcome of the alt-ending, the original is much more shocking and powerful. It's still comes to mind often.
