USCGC Storis, #38 will be decommissioned today, February 8 in Kodiak, Alaska. The USCGC Storis is currently the oldest cutter in the Coast Guard fleet. As such, The Storis which bears the title, "Queen of the Fleet" is the only cutter with hull numbers painted in gold. For photos, history go to USCGC Storis With the de-commissioning of the cutter Storis, the 63 year-old USCGC Acushnet, homeported in Ketchikan, Alaska will be crowned the next Coast Guard "Queen of the Fleet". The Acushnet was first homeported in Portland, Maine as a Coast Guard tug. USCGC Acushnet Judy

Read the history of the ACUSHNET - this cutter has had more homeports than the average bear! They have bounced this cutter back and forth between both coasts, the Gulf Coast and now Alaska. Quite a history.

I don't post often anymore, but had to let people know that the STORIS was my first duty assignment after boot camp in the Coast Guard. I was on her from 1965 till 1967. The old girl had a lot of miles on her keel. She was already old when I was on her. Rich

Hey Rich, ...I sent you a private message about a buddy of mine who entered the USCG around that time. Check it out and see if you may remember him. Bob
