I decided to drive out to Holland tonight for what turned out to be a spectacular sunset. Here are a couple shots I thought I would share.

Beautiful Jen. smile

I love the way the clouds are rippling through the sky reflecting the light.

Giving that new camera quite the workout, Jen. Thanks for sharing. Going to try some of the "Gary Martin extreme pictures" as the winter sets in?

Nice job on these images. I like the interior lights.

Nice pics, Jen... don't know if you made it to the lake today or not, but the wind was pretty extreme... gusting in the 50-60 mph range and driving pretty mountainous waves into the piers at South Haven. The wave direction wasn't quite optimal for monster plumes of spray with every wave the way it can be some days, but periodically, there was a wave that hit the south pier at the right angle to produce a billowing cloud of spray... Hersh and I shot for several hours, and my butt is still cold despite the heated seats in my Audi being cranked up all the way on the drive home!

BTW, did you ever get your camera back that had the boo boo?

Gary

Hey Gary! I thought about going, but then I decided naah...I froze last night as it was!

It took me a long time to warm up last night too. That wind chills you to the bone! Be sure to post some slides when you get them. The sunset here tonight was spectacular with the cloud bottoms being lit up by the sun on the horizon.

Actually, the camera was and is still fine. It was the lens. I sent it into the manufacturer and I called last week and they hadn't gotten to it yet. I will call tomorrow. I'll be curious to see if it's even fixable. Take a look at the damage. Busted Lens

Jen,

Did you use a credit card to pay for the lens? (You always should...for a number of reasons) If so, many have a 30-90 guarantee period where they will fix or replace items, even ones you lost, as long as you used their card. Check with the bank that issued the card. You will also find that many credit card issuers will extend the warranty by double (or up to a total of 12 months extra) IF you use their card.

It was a debit card...I don't think they will cover it but I will call my bank to find out.

Most debit cards (check cards) are issued under the MasterCard or Visa banner. If so, they may cover this for you. This is one of the big reasons to use a credit card when making purchases such as this, even if you have the cash. (Pay the cash to the credit card.) If there is a dispute with the vendor, you can often get your bank or MC/Visa involved in it to help get things corrected. And, as I noted above, many MC/Visa cards give you not only the extra extended warranty, but sometimes they offer the purchase protection (break it, lose it or whatever in the 30-90 days they cover) and some offer price protection (find a better price and they refund the difference). Find out what extras are part of your credit card package, and you might be surprised. Hope this works out for you.

I finally got ahold of Sigma today. $120 to fix my lens. Yeah! At least it's affordably fixable. I should have it back before Christmas.

Thanks for sharing this sunset Jen. After Gary and I left South Haven I saw this developing from US31 and I wanted to scream cause I wasn't photographing it. If it wasn't for a meeting I had to attend, I would have detoured to St. Joe and burned some Velvia on this beauty. I'm glad someone was able to capture it.

Hey Mike, long time no see! I have had nights like those. My two year old ties me down so it's hard to get out when it's cold and windy because I don't like to take her out in those conditions. My home faces west, so every night when there is an incredible sunset, I mutter to myself, "I should be in Grand Haven..."

Nice pictures, Jen. I do recall seeing your post on Photo.net when you had your lens mishap. I'm glad that it all worked out for you! My 100 2.8 macro took a "swim" when I was shooting covered bridges summer before last, so I can really identify with how you must have felt.
