These were taken in Feb 2005 on our vacation.

I recognize Ponce and Mayport (how could I not), but where were you when you took the Amelia Island one? I've never seen that from a distance.

That picture was taken from the road to Fort Clinch. We had heard that you could see the lighthouse from that road, but did not see it on the way to the Fort. The blacksmith at the Fort told us where we could see it. This picture was taken from the east of the light and there was a marsh between it and me. My husband says the best part of me trying to get this picture, was when I notices the alligator sign. I was trying to find a good spot to take the picture though the trees when I saw a sign out of the corner of my eye with a picture of an alligator. I stopped and backup a step to read it. He says he wished he had a camera to take that picture.

I also got a picture of Amelia Island up close but the fence and the trees made it hard to get a good picture. I know what the picture is of, but even I really have to look hard to see the lighthouse.
I have some other pictures of St. Augustine and Ponce De Leon. I will post some of those later when I get them resized.

As many times as I've been to Fernandina (and my rough count makes it 6 times), I've never gotten out to Fort Clinch. This is as close as I've gotten.

So I'm real glad to know where I can see the lighthouse from a distance.

Last time we were there, I did get to the lighthouse by car

The Fort is really interesting and if you walk around the top of the wall, it's a great veiw. You really have to watch for Amelia Island through the trees by the road. But there is a couple of fairly clear areas and you can see the lighthouse standing out above the trees.
You have some great pictures of the Fort and the Lighthouse. My other picture is similar to the first one you have posted, but I was trying to take the picture though the fence.

There wasn't a fence around the Amelia Island lighthouse when I was there (it was Feb 2005).

Also we went into the Naval Base in Mayport, but I got a big drop of grease on my camera lens and didn't see it until afterwards so those pictures are not too wonderful. The blurry area (because I turned the camera sideways) is on the lower left, and I didn't get the camera straight on the second one.

We could see the outline of the oil house quite clearly, but it doesn't show well in this picture. (When the base was built, the land was raised about 20 feet and filled to make stable runways. The base of the lighthouse including the door is buried underground. The outline of the oil house roof can still be seen on the side of the lighthouse just to the left of the tree above the fence. Access is through a window.)

This one shows the blurry spot really well mad

A newer lighthouse was built about 2 miles southeast of this one. I didn't realize that it was also on the base, and I didn't get a picture of it

It looks like a fingerprint to me. Did you let anyone else handle your camera? I had that happen to me in the past when someone volunteered to take a picture of me and the bride together. I never thought of checking the filter on my lens and all the subsequent pics had the little blurry spot in one corner.

Chalk it up to experience, and next time I will always take a quick peek at the lens before I shoot.
