Merry Christmas to all! I wanted to share a couple shots I took in Grand Haven about 2:00 p.m. this afternoon.

Both images are superb. Excellent sharpness considering the amount of wind. The composition on the second is very interesting.

Great shots, Jen...

...Now we know why they needed those elevated walkways between the towers.

Lorie, we had snow, then it jumped to mid-40s yesterday so most of it melted. They are calling for a major storm by Christmas Eve though...yikes!

They said on the news that this area won't be getting a white Chritsmas. frown Christmas Eve it'll rain, then something else...

But that means better chance of nice weather on the Outer Banks! cool

I don't remember what they gave for temps.

Outstanding images both, Jen. I especially like the second one, very cool composition. And of course the gull adds to the flavor.

Thanks for the comments on aesthetics and composition. I have been trying some new things with composition and the second shot was one. smile

Was that crop in the viewfinder or did you try it after you scanned it in?

Jen - Thanks for sharing these wonderful images. MJ and I visited the lower portion of the lake, at the beginning of December, and had planned to get up to this location. We did not have enough time and plan to return to see this lighthouse someday. These images are definitely winners.

Hi Mike! To answer your question, the first photo I had actually shot through the viewfinder like that, but since I was handholding at F8, the fog building wasn't that sharp since the camera had focused on the waves. The top shot was a horizontal shot that was clear all the way through so I cropped it to look like the other shot that didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. The wave in the other shot was much better! The second one was what I saw through the viewfinder with the exception of the very bottom of the pier that I cropped out (when you walk out there, it was the section of where you walk down the ramp and the level of the pier is lower there).

Hope that answers your question! Merry Christmas!

Nicely done. We don't get quite the stormy wave action close to the lights out here - so many of them are either away from the water, (as opposed to the Lakes Lights), or far above the water.
