We are going to Florida in a couple of weeks to visit relatives and thought about trying to fit in a visit to Egmont Key. Can anyone tell us who to contact to cruise on out to the key? Is it open to climb? I was born in St. Petersburg and don't remember seeing this light. It's about time we saw this light!! Judy

Bill and Judy, you are welcome. If you two are going to be in the Tampa area on May 19th make sure you stop by the TBHLCC meeting. We would all like to see y'all.

The closest we got to seeing Egmont Key was from the public fishing pier across the way. Once we got there we decided to forgo trying to get over there. Without the lantern room unfortunatly it just didn't look that great.
I would recommend, since your going to be in the area, go up to Tarpon Springs and take one of the sponge boats that take you out by Anclote Key lighthouse. They may even have a boat now that takes you to the island, but even on the sponge boats you get close enough to get a pretty good view. Just check with the boat lines as to how close they get first.

Bill and Judy Hubbard's Sea Adventures run a ferry service to Egmond Key daily. The cost of the trip is $15.00 for adults and $7.00 for children. The ferry boat leaves from Pinellas County Fort DeSoto Park, at 10am and 11am.
You may contact Hubbard's Sea Adventures at: 727 867-6569 727 398-6577
Fort DeSoto Park at: 727 582-2267
Hope this helps Mike

Eric, when and where is the TBHLCC meeting on May 19th? We're not sure we can make it but just in case. Mike (Cana Fan), yes Egmont Key Light is rather ugly but we just have to see it one of these days! We took the boat trip to Anclote Key Lighthouse with the TBHLCC and enjoyed the re-lighting ceremony that evening. It was a great time and a great light. Mike (mghusge), thanks for the information about Hubbard's Sea Adventure. We'll give them a call. Judy

Judy, the TBHLCC will be meeting at what used to be Ryans on Waters Ave, in Tampa, where the club has met for a number of years. The place is now a chinese buffet, and I forget the name. It is at the corner of Waters and Hanley, in the same plaza as the Publixs. The meeting is on May 19th, and we start gathering around 6:30 the meeting starts at 7:00.
