Brenda,
They're in the judging stage for the photo contest at this point. That process, from talking with John Chidester the webmaster is on going at the moment. Kim Andrews and HL's graphics designer, I know, are engaged in doing the juding and a lot of people, I'm sure are expectantly awaiting the announcement of the results, although I personally don't know when that will be at the moment although I would think by some time early next week? John, if you happen to read this, any input?

Hi Bren and Gary...

Yes, the photo contest judging is in progress as we speak. We had a great turn-out with many many beautiful shots. Deciding the winners from these photos is hard however I believe winners should be announced sometime this week. Thanks again to all who participated and again, for your patience.

Tim - Keeping the flame lit...

Judges will evaluate each picture within the four categories against the others in the same group (as opposed to judging the photos against some external standard -- such as Pulitzer Prize winning photos).

Images will be judged giving 1-5 points for each of these factors: Impact, Composition, Technique. The image with the highest rating (5) in each category must receive 5 points and any others that match the highest rating will also receive 5 points. The image with the lowest rating in each category must receive 1 point. The range of points to be awarded will thus be from 3 to 15.

The points from the three judges will be totalled to determine the winner. Images scoring above a certain number of points will receive honorable mentions.

It may be later this week, rather than earlier before judging is complete. Tim Young, originator of the contest is one of the judges. The others are Kim Andrews and Court Patton - the graphic designer used by Harbour Lights.

Kim's first reaction was amazement at the number and quality of the photo contest entries.

Will we be able to find out our scores?

Larry, you stay away from the French judge, no funny business. We clear on that?

Hey Larry... I have to reiterate the no funny business with the judges comment! After all, this isn't figure skating where the judges expect to be wined, dined, and intimidated!

John, making the scores available to individuals on their submissions would be very useful. One of the things important to me personally at least is any quantitative assessment I can get of the reaction to my work. So I'd have to make a strong second to Larry's suggestion re being able to get the scores on your own photos.

What you didn't mention, John, was Kim's second reaction - probably something like oh God how are we going to decide a winner!

And Mark - cute, LOL, which one is the French judge? Impact, Composition and Technique, hmm, as the criteria? Sounds like three good areas to use in choosing the best photos!!

BTW, for those who didn't see my explanation in one of the other forums as to why I show Teresa in parentheses in my signature, it's because I don't want to be thought of as a male with the name of Terrence and nickname of Terry (as has happened countless number of times in some of the photographic websites) but as the female I am with the name of Teresa and nickname of Terry. (People don't always pick up on the fact that I mention my husband, Dan, in some messages.)

Please keep the scores private and provide them to those that request them. This was for fun.

I concur with Sean... provide the scores for those who ask for them... they shouldn't be posted!

I agree with Gary on seeing my own scores, not to compare with others, but for self evaluation. I'm sure it would help me find my weak areas(all three)- and yes, this contest was for fun! Thanks to those who have, and are, working so hard for the shutterbugs among us.

Ok, Bud I'll try and help you to 50 posts, Streetsboro, OH is south east of Cleveland, near the Canton - Akron area.

Come on, Bud... here's one other that you can respond to that'll make #50... where do you want to start on the lake when you come up? How about St Joe's then you can run I-94 across to the Lake and we can work our way up the coast hitting the lights as we go?

Thanks for the AAA triptik, Mark.I was genuinely interested in knowing that, I wasn't looking for a lame excuse to hit 50, etc. etc. etc. And thanks for the bait, Gary, but Mark was kind enough to offer his help. I'm open to wherever for the shoots. I think I just hit 50, so maybe I can get a good nights rest tonite.

Sleep well, Bud!!!! Let's start down at St Joe's.... know where you're going there or do you want me to e-mail you directions and a map as an attachment? Alternatively, we could start up north and work our way back south along the coast. I'm fine either way... Actually, while there are still no leaves on the trees, I wouldn't mind shooting Little Sable again at sunset. That's only 2 hrs from home for me, which isn't bad either... One other nice shoot is Pt Betsie but that's still another 2 hrs further north but has several others in between. Something to think about there....

Yes Bud Streetsboro is located southeast of Cleveland. It is about half way between Cleveland and Akron. It is in northern Portage County. Where is Logan, Ohio?

Wow, another night owl...! It will be nice to have some company when I'm up late working and decide to see what's going on on the lighthouse forums, Brenda.

Returning to a previous topic in this thread, I'd like to put in my vote that I would like to see my scores on my 4 photos that I entered in the contest. As Bud mentioned, I'd like to see for myself where the judges felt I did best of the 3 criteria in mine, partly as a comparison or tool to help me improve in my photography.

Brenda, Logan is SE of Columbus 50 mi.on Rt. 33, right below Lancaster. I've been past your neck of the woods many times but I don't remember seeing Streetsboro.----Gary, we can touch bases later on the shoot, I can find my way around pretty well after having been there in Oct. I really enjoyed Grand Haven at dusk, and Little Sable is on my favorites list! Catch you later, my days haven't had enough hours in them lately.
