Punta Gorda, CA Lighthouse

Okay, what is that thing on the beach? Is it some sort of bouy?

Bob S. how could you forget the "Punta Gorda Death March"? I mean every time it's mentioned all I hear is how I just abandoned Maryann and you to your fates.

Melody, yes that is a bouy that washed up in a storm.

As one walks southward along the beach this is the first view one has of the lighthouse.

This looks like a walk best taken at low tide. Reminds me of the beach to New Dungeness, which if not taken at low tide, you have to walk on the rocks and the slimy sea kelp, which does not make for a pleasant 5-mile hike.

How far is this walk?

It's about a 3 mile hike to the lighthouse.. I will put up a new mystery light shortly..

Yes it would only have been a 3 mile hike if the gate had not been locked. We had to add another 2 or so miles to the normal trip. The worst part is the last 2 miles was straight up the side of a mountain!!

The path is not that bad. Most of it is up above the beach. There a a few areas that are soupy, a couple of places are sandy, and there was one deep creek to cross. Fortunately someone had placed a board across it and we stayed out of the water.

It was the coating on the brick. I wasn't sure. I will see what I have, might have to wait till this evening to put one up.

These don't have blue skies...but I like them. The sunset is looking out Ocracoke Inlet.

There is a tangible quality in the light from a fresnel! This is one of those places I could go back to again and again...

No claims to this being a tough one...

This one is a favorite!

Paul was still in route and only saw the lighthouse from the boat trip. The first pic was the original outhouse(that I found in woods) that they moved away from the LH so vandals wouldn't burn down the LH if they lit it up.

Check out the wood gutters.

Point Pinos, CA Lighthouse

You got it Paul. The last picture was taken with my first digital camera...and was not so good. I used the "oil pastels" effect to salvage the photo. Nancy and I sat in front of the lighthouse to watch the sun go down. We only had light jackets and the coast of California can be cold in April. I held a blanket around us both (or it would have blown away) while she took the pictures.

It's a good thing Eric got it in one, because i only shot the lighthouse from this spot so as not to bother the people in the Hostel..
