This past Saturday several of us had the good fortune to be able to attend the HL regional in New Orleans. We learned much about the New Canal Light and the plans of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation as it proceeds with efforts to rebuild the light. While the plan is to use as much of the original materials as possible, what better way to make the funds go a little further than to be the winner of the Jeld-Wen windows and door.

Tough decision for many of us this year - one way or another we are attached to so many of the lights on the finalist list. The prize will be great for whatever light wins.

Vote here

New Canal got my vote too!
They all need the help and I wish that they all could get the windows. But IMHO New Canal needs them the most. They don't just need windows they need..... literally everything from the ground up!

New Canal got my vote. It was a tough decision. I would like to see all of them get help.

I decided to vote for a different one. New Canal is just as deserving but it's gotten a big boost from us here already and I just figured I'd spread the wealth so to speak.

I might have voted differently if I had just come back from there, though. laugh

New Canal got my vote too. Probably because of just visiting there and seeing how much it needs the help. I know they all need help and wish they could all receive it.

At one time I thought we could vote everyday for these finalists. It appears, however, we are only suppose to vote once. Which is correct?

Judy,

Yes, you are correct. You can only vote once.

I believe the confusion is from the way it was done previously when you could vote once a day.

There is a note at the voting site that specifically tells you only one vote per e-mail address and tells you that it's is great if you pass on the info to friends so they can participate.

I suppose if anybody wants to honor the letter of the rule- if not the spirit- you could vote once for every e-mail address you have.

I have several but have resisted voting more than once- so far. laugh

Thanks, Dennis. I feel awful because I remembered how it was before and I told a bunch of people to vote early and vote often! I think I had better get an email out to them before I get in deeper hot water!

With my daughter living in Rhode Island, it was hard to vote against Rose Island, but after attending the Regional it was impossible to vote against New Canal.

WOW ! I just received an email from our friend Anne Rheams at the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation letting me know that the restoration of New Canal Light won this year's Jeld-Wen competition. For those of us who were at the New Orleans regional, you know how impassioned Anne is about rebuilding the light and this will certainly help.

Read the press release here

This year's competition involved a number of lights that we have visited and it would have been great to see all of them win such a great prize.

That's great news. That area needs some cheer.

Great news !!! Even though all the finalist deserve to win, this one arguably needed it the most. cool

It is great news to see that all Anne's work at the lighthouse is moving forward. Well deserved.
