Your help is needed!
...to Restore Cedar Island Lighthouse's 1902 Brick Oil House

The Chapter has received approval of the plan to restore the Cedar Island lighthouse's 1902 brick oil house. The oil house, badly beaten by the elements and vandals, is in danger of losing its historic integrity unless restored this year. Respected preservation contractor Walter DeGroot has developed a plan that can be implemented this Fall, and the Suffolk County Parks Department, which owns the lighthouse, has approved the project. $20,000 is needed to restore and protect this only remaining outbuilding at the station.

Dear Friends,
As you all know, this project was the beginning of my involvement with lighthouses many moons ago. CEDAR ISLAND (As you can see - this was the beginning of Friends of CI, 3 Stooges, Long Island Chapter and our connection to the Forum.) I am quite proud to see the progress that has been made and the wonderful support of the Suffolk County Parks for their lighthouse as well as the Long Island Chapter, USLHS for adopting the restoration's cause.
I know there are many similar projects worthy of your support that have and will be presented here but I ask that you consider this project.
Thanks as always to my fellow Forum Members for their generousity and support.

Bob,

You've got mine. I did it before the thread on here came up.

Hope to see you in September at the Regional and or the Beacons Cruise.

Unrelated but related question, Bob.. Is there time to stay for the drawings (Gold Lighthouses) at the end of the Regional on Long Island and make it to the 4th Annual "Beacons of the Night" Sunset/Moonlight Lighthouse Cruise? I have to take pictures of the winners and pack up our Club stuff at the Regional before we could head to the boat...

This is a hot issue for all you regional attendees. Make sure you check it out on you way to or from Montauk!
