American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation have selected twenty-five places of historic, cultural and aesthetic significance in the Seattle-Puget Sound area as participants for the 2010 Partners in Preservation initiative.

THE POINT NO POINT LIGHTHOUSE IS CURRENTLY IN 4TH PLACE

From now and until May 12, 2010, you have the opportunity to cast one vote each day online for the historic place that you care about. At the end of the voting period, the site with the most votes is guaranteed funding from a total of $1 million that American Express will give away to support the preservation of historic places in the Seattle-Puget Sound area.

While the top vote getter is guaranteed a grant, your votes will also help American Express, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and an advisory committee comprised of Seattle-Puget Sound area civic and preservation leaders determine how best to distribute the rest of the $1 million. The voting results, along with each historic place’s preservation and monetary needs, will be considered.

Why the Point No Point Lighthouse needs your support:
Although the era of manned light stations has come to a close, those last remaining symbols of our maritime heritage can and should be preserved for future generations. As the oldest lighthouse on Puget Sound, Point No Point is an iconic symbol of Washington's maritime history, playing an outsized role in the area's rise to economic prosperity. Visited by over 30,000 people annually, the historic Point No Point Lighthouse is in need of a Partners in Preservation grant to reverse deterioration and assure that the public can continue to visit this maritime treasure for years to come.

Thanks in advance for your votes

I've been voting everyday. Use the following website

www.partnersinpreservation.org

You must create a userid and password and login before you are allowed to vote. After you vote the site will tell you where your selection falls.

Right now Point No Point is 4th with 7% of the votes, being hedged out of the lead by Schooner Adventures 17%, Town Hall Seattle 14% and The 5th Avenue Theatre 10%. If everyone on the forums were to vote everyday maybe we could make a difference!

7% we need more votes.

This a really neat LH with a curved ladder to get to the lantern.

I can't understand with all the lighthouse lovers around why PNP is in 4th place. We announced this on our USLHS tour recently and I sent it to several LH friends so it is going around. PLEASE VOTE. Thanks Darlene for bringing this up.

I agree with Judy, it is hard to understand how PNP lighthouse can still be in fourth place. I am voting every day and keep spreading the word on facebook and every other site I can think of. I'm not sure everyone knows what is at stake here!

My best,
Paul Conlin

I have been voting everyday, when I voted again this AM, PNP still at 8%, hasn't gained any ground, but also has not slipped.

Please vote every day!

That is encouraging that the possibility of second, third or fourth place may get a share of the funds. We need to keep voting and perhaps we'll see it move up. Sure didn't know the schooner adventures was the most popular of all the others listed.

When completing my vote this morning I noticed that the picture of PNP is now in the third position even thought it still is tied at 3rd place at 8%. This makes me think that PNP is now ahead of the 5th Avenue Theatre perhaps by some 10th of a percentage that is not displayed.

Keep voting!

TODAY, May 12th, IS THE LAST DAY TO VOTE and with your help Point No Point stands in third place !!! This is great because it means we are likely to get a good portion of what we requested for funding. However, it is vitally important that we don't let our third place position slip away at the last minute. Please cast your vote once again for the final time and show that the lighthouse community stands strong for the Point No Point Lighthouse.

A special thank you to all who voted for us; and a double thank you to those of you who voted every day. We came in third and as a result received a nice check to help with the restoration of the tower. Here is the article that was in the paper. Point No Point Awarded $100,000 Grant
