I'm happy to announce the results of the 2005 Wacko Badge Vote-

Pottowatomie, WI

I have contacted The Friends Of Rock Island and they have confirmed that all monies donated by the Wackos will be used only for Lighthouse Restoration.

I'll be making an announcement about the photo for the Badge soon. Keep checking this space for an announcement.

I want to thank all of the Wackos that participated in this process from the nomination up to the final vote and beyond.

It was, as always, a tough decision to choose between the five nominated Lighthouses.

The Wacko Badge will be available after the first of the year. Watch this space for that announcement also.

Dennis

Congratulations to all those involved with Pottawatomie! This is a great selection, as any of the five would have been. It's great to have a new region represented!

This is a great choice, and I know that Pottawatomie will use the money well. I also had a very good learning experience from this - I can now spell Pottawatomie right (I think)! laugh

Greg,

Unless you specifically put it into your spellcheck that won't help you spell it either. laugh

Paul,

I could be mistaken but I don't believe that a breakdown has ever been part of the Wacko Pin now Wacko Badge Vote.

I'm sure someone who is better at searching the archives can answer that question. I did a quick search and found no posts that give the breakdown on previous Wacko Pin votes.

I don't recall any breakdown of votes before either. Perhaps the lighthouse that came in 2nd was mentioned as if things didn't fall into place for the 1st choice the runner up would be next in line????

Hello everyone,

The first thing I'd like to do is to thank everyone who has supported the Pottawatomie Lighthouse on Rock Island in Wisconsin throughout the years. THANK YOU to all of you! Since 1997 when our club first adopted the Pottawatomie Lighthouse, significant progress has taken place. Pottawatomie Lighthouse is now a beautiful museum with living quarters for the docents. My son and I were lucky enough to live for a week in the lighthouse last August, giving tours and meeting alot of wonderful people. What a difference the Harbour Lights collectors have made for Pottawatomie. The collectors have shown their support by donating money, buying pins, post cards, tee shirts and purchasing raffle tickets throughout the years. The collectors have definitely made a impact in the restoration project. There are still projects in the works. We are in the planning stages for having shutters built that will protect it from the cold Wisconsin winters. The original gutters were removed with the old roof and never replaced. The fence that once ran along the bluff on the north elevation in front of the lighthouse needs to be built. We are also looking forward to obtaining a replica fourth order Fresnel Lens to mount in the lantern room for all the visitors to enjoy. It has been too long of time since I've been on the forum. My family is needing more of my attention as the kids get older and I am more involved with their activities. I was happy that Suzanne Murphy, Pam Cook and Gladys Ebertowski along with other club members took the Harbour Lights Collectors Club - Great Lakes District to the next level. I enjoying being a member of WILD and of coarse promoting Pottawatomie Lighthouse. I just hope one day I'll have a Harbour Lights limited edition Pottawatomie sitting in my curio cabinet.
Thanks again to everyone for your support.

Paul,

I've been informed by Barb Hupp who was the person who got the ball rolling on this Wacko Pin (now Wacko Badge) Project that I was basically correct.

The actual numbers of the votes were never listed in either the Nominations (but anybody who wanted to do the math could count them in the posts in the Forums) or in the Final Vote.

However they did post the order in which the Nominees finished in.

So here goes-

Pottowatomie
Avery Point
Cedar Island
Isle Of Shoals
North Block.

I again want to thank all that participated in this process and again congratulate Pottowatomie on it's win.

I also want to remind people that I am still looking for submissions of 1 or 2 photos of Pottowatimie to be used on the Wacko Badge.

Please send a small picture file to the following address-

wackobadge@optonline.net

The picture you send has to be one you took and have all rights to. You will not be compensated for it's use or acknowledged on the Wacko Badge itself. You will be credited on the Forums, though.

Hey, here it is February - what is happening with the badges? Are they ready to be purchased yet? Do we have a picture of what one will look like when they are ready for purchase? When can I get one? wink smile

Eskilady,

The badge project was set aside while the fund raising drive was ongoing. The badge is now being worked on. Expect to see it ready to go within a couple weeks at most. Not a gigantic hurry since the earliest possible event at this point is St. Augustine in mid-March.

Haven't been on the Forum in quite awhile.
Is it too late to purchase a 2005 Wacko Pin of
the Pottowatomie LH?

When will we be learning about the new 2006 Wacko
Pin? Is the voting over?

I have to apologize for being so uninformed.
The few times I have been on the Forum I couldn't find any info about the Wacko Pins. I guess I wasn't looking in the right place.

Welcome back Joanie! laugh
I guess the 2006 should start soon. Pins and badges are separate. I'm sure Dave can get you a badge but I don't know about extra pins? This is around the time the process starts. I can't answer your other questions but I'm sure someone will jump in with more info. confused

Joanie,

It was the consensus of the commitee after last years results and sales were done that there would not be another Wacko Pin after the 2005 edition.

I do not know of any leftover pins- generally there would not be any since orders are taken and then they are made based on that number.

I'll leave the 2006 Wacko Badge info to Dave as that is usually his balliwick. I did assist him with that last year but as of now nothing has been discussed about the 2006 edition.

Joanie, I'll find the badge posting in the General Forum and surface it. Its time to wrap it up for this year but I can still make you one.

Yes really.

The process was contentious on several levels last time and the members of the Commitee basically decided independantly that they did not wish to participate in the future.

I believe all but one had decided to not repeat their participation and with no commitee to organize it it was decided that it would die a quiet death after a successful run.

Part of the problem was that there were just too many projects going to the well- you can only get so much support from people for so many worthy projects.

Last year's numbers of people involved, pins sold and money raised was down considerably from prior years.

You (or anyone else for that matter)are more than welcome to try and form a commitee and put out a 2006 Wacko Pin. I will forward to you (or the appropriate individuals) the info I have but I will not be part of the commitee.

It was just the opinion of most involved- particularrly Barb who was involved from the beginning- that the project had run its course and should be retired. It was also decided to not make a general announcement unless asked about it.

Hope this explains it sufficently for all concerned- if not ask away and I'll respond.

Dennis

I think JoanieO was referring to the WACKO Badge, not the WACKO pin. (Pottawatomie)

As Rosanne Rosannadanna said "Never Mind"

John,

Of course you are right. I was responding in part to Bob as well. I believe I said that Dave would address the Badge question.

I was specifically addressing the Wacko Pin aspect of teh question. I should have made that more clear in my responses.

Time sure flies- actually there was not a 2005 Wacko Pin either. My brain was not functioning properly earlier- althought the answers I gave were still the correct ones, just for the wrong year.

There was some interest expressed to me during the Reunion about starting up the Wacko Pin Project again. I would be happy to discuss it further with anyone interested. Feel free to email me at lighthouselucy@earthlink.net.

Grace - I think if you contact Dave by email that he may still be able to get you a 2005 Badge. Somewhere on the Forums he mentioned that they were still available about 2-3 days ago.

Just wanted to let you know that I ordered and received the WACKO 2005 badge from Dave. I was inquiring about the Wacko Pin. I have the Wacko Pin from 2002 (SE Block Island) and I have the Wacko Pin from 2004 (Esopus Meadows, NY. Sorry there won't be another pin.
