Hi

I am looking for the old Minot's Ledge Massachusetts, HL#131 that was retired in 1996. I have emailed the company so they can search their dealer inventory (I used that to get the Scituate Lighthouse HL166), but they couldnt find any and suggested I look around in here.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find one?

This would be a lighthouse on the secondary market from a collector. I doubt that you would find one from a dealer. When you ask about it verify that it is MIB (Mint In Box).
When you find a seller you may email me for any help you may need in buying one.
This sounds like this is the first time for you buying thru the secondary market.

Thank you everyone. I have finally gotten my hands on the HL 131 Minot's Ledge Light House - and now I am looking to complete that history with the Original Lighthouse (HL646) - the 1-4-3 Lighthouse (and yes, that is the meaning to my screen name).

Thankfully this one is not retired and I think I know where I can get it locally.

Can someone please explain exactly what MIB, mint in box means? Does that mean that the item has not been displayed (always stored in box) or has been displayed (and is in excellent condition... or does that matter? Are there guidelines for the meaning of MIB?
Sorry....just a newbie here asking quesitons!

My interpretation of "Mint in Box" refers to the fact that the piece is in perfect condition and comes with all associated documentation -- along with the box with matching Flag Number.

Hi Rebecca, ...Mint in the box should mean that the piece looks like new with no fading, microchips, or any defects of any kind. It should also be in its original box. The original paperwork that comes with the piece is nice to have but I don't think it is required for a MIB designation.

As far as being displayed, you would never know if the seller had displayed it or not no matter what a seller claims. I find it hard to believe that so many early pieces would never have been displayed at least for a short period of time.

I use to display every piece I bought. That's why I bought them. Now I take them out of the box to make sure they weren't damaged in shipment, then I put them back in the box and store them because I have no room to display them. I can truthfully say that about a third of my collection has never been displayed. I imagine there are many others that can also make that claim.

What it comes down to is what you see is what you get. It doesn't matter if it has never been displayed. What matters is its condition when you get it.

There is no 'rules' on what MIB means. So it is important to confirm your expectations with the seller. "Buyer Beware"

If you were the one that got that Minot's for $40.95 that was linked above, you got a GREAT DEAL. $1 over the starting bid. Those higher number pieces from the early years always seem to be the nicest in terms of finish and paint.

(Although not always the most unique because of early year variations. I think there are five painting variations on Minot's Ledge.)
