1. ORIGINAL CAPE HATTERAS LIGHTHOUSE #102 $3,025.00

Quote:
This is number 93 of 5500 pieces. In great condition with no chips, cracks or restorations. The label on the bottom has come loose, but is still with the piece as shown. No box.
There are two varieties, the “made in California” version that has sand colored base, full gray felt, white ventilator ball and originally comes in a plain brown box. The other one is the “made in Canada” variety that is a California mold with a gray colored base, green ventilator; green felt that falls short of the edge and a larger brown box with castle Studios written on it.

The white tip variety is a little more common than the green and generally goes for less. As I have said before I feel that this is still a bargain at $3025.00. As values go I am a strong believer of the green book when it comes to rare Harbour light collectables. The green book value is $4300 and if I were going to insure it, I would go with that price or more, up to $5,000. I feel that if it had the original box it would have gone for $300 to $500 more and if it were sold by an experienced hl collector or dealer it would have also gone for an other $300 to $500 more. My reasoning is that this would have attracted more specialty collectors. So what I am saying if the above items were met the lighthouse would have gone for $3600 to $ 4000.

2.Coquille River HL111 $1,700
Number 446
Made in Canada with castle studios box.

This is the going price for a coquille.
Two digits go for over the $2000 mark (I have tracked a number 54 for $2259.57 and a number 34 for $2500
There was a number 987 that didn’t have a original box went for $1,225
All the rest on ebay generally went from $1500 to $1800

3. HARBOUR LIGHTS 5 PIECE PHAROS SET $535

Quote:
This 5 piece Pharos Collection by Harbour Lights was made exclusively for the United Kingdom only in 2000, and was not available in the United States. We purchased this collection from a dealer in England. All pieces are Mint in Box and have never been displayed. Open only for photos.
1. PC101 Portland Bill, England #2190
2. PC103 Trwyn Du, North Wales #2070
3. PC104 Needles Point, England #2389
4. PC105 Ballinacourty Point, Ireland #2059
5. PC107 Bell Rock, Scotland #2053
This set is a must for any Harbour Light collector. Thank you for bidding and good luck.
This is the highest yet for the Pharos since I started the TTOE (”Top Ten on Ebay”). The highest I have tracked the Pharos for this calendar year was $380 on ebay and $450 on the forum. I have been calling the Pharos a sleeper for over a year now. I believe its value should be from $750 to $1000 and I expect them to reach this in about an other 3 to 5 years. There are only 400 made and probably only around 250 to 300 in the US. We know of one large dealer that sent 200 of the Pharos to the US. I would assume that at least 50 to 100 were sent over by the other smaller dealers. I think it is reasonably to say that 100 to 150 got absorbed into the UK.

4. Waugoshance MI '05 Reunion Exclusives $400

Quote:
Includes the Harbour Lights 2005 Reunion Waugoshance full size piece, HL690(#139), the Waugoshance Mini, HL689(#139), and the Waugoshance thumbnail. The 2005 Harbour Lights Reunion was the lowest attended to date. This makes the HL689 mini and HL690 full size one of the lowest, if not the lowest, edition size Harbour Lights has ever produced. The full size was produced showing the light in all its old time glory (signed by Bill, Nancy, and Kim), while the mini depicts the light as it sits now. All three pieces are brand new, never displayed, only removed from their boxes for inspection.
This is as high as I expect to see the 05 reunion set going for at this time.

6.Waugoshance MI '05 Reunion Exclusives $350

Quote:
This is your chance to own the Harbour Lights 2005 Reunion Waugosance full size piece, HL790 (#333), the Waugosance Mini, Hl689 (#333) and the Waugosance thumbnail. The 2005 Harbour Lights Reunion was the lowest attended to date making the full size and the mini size each one of the lowest edition size Harbour Lights has ever produced. The full size shows the light as it was in its prime while the mini depicts the light as it is today. The full size and the mini are both signed by Bill, Nancy and Kim, in addition the mini is signed by the two attending Harbour Lights artists. All pieces are brand new, never displayed.
This will probably be the going price for other sets. I personally feel that the seller is just giving away the thumbnail when it is attached with the mini and full size. The thumbnail shouldn’t affect the value either way. It’s the Mini and full size that is in the line light for the bidding.

7. HL 108 - Burrows Island $175

Quote:
Flag # 967. This piece is a Malaysian mold with intact lightning rod.
Lighthouse is in excellent condition, with no chips, nicks, flaking paint, etc. The piece comes from a non-smoking home with the original box, COA
This is usually the going price for a Malaysian Burrows Island. But the fact this has a lighting rod puts it in an other category. With only about 100 to 150 of Malaysian with rods being produced, I would say that this one went for a bargain. The last Malaysian with rod went for $355.

8. HL 127, Whaleback NH $149.99

Quote:
This is the Harbour Lights replica of the Whaleback, New Hampshire lighthouse that was issued in a limited edition in 1992. This is a unique version of this lighthouse in that it was produced in Canada and has a gray felt on the base rather than the normal green flocking present on the Canadian made pieces. The edition number on this piece is 620. This lighthouse is in mint condition, has not been displayed, and has been stored in a smoke free environment. Includes the original "Castle Studios" white box, original packaging and papers.
Usually Canadian Whalebacks with original box goes for $100 to $125.
But since this is the gray felt version, I feel that the $ 149.99 is well justified.

9.Set of 4 Harbour Lights thumbnail lighthouses.
$109.50

Quote:
Tiny Harbour Lights lighthouses handed out at in-store events. Set includes Cape Hatteras NC, Sandy Hook NJ, Assateague VA, and St. Simons GA. Each comes with the original blue pouch with gold drawstring. They are about the size of a penny. (see photo). An awesome addition to any Harbour Lights collection!
Actually these where made for the reunion. But extras were made so that Bill could give them at store events. They were given out to children and sometimes the ladies. This was the best promotion that could have been done for collecting thumbnails. Many families found theirselfs with one or two of thumbnails. Collectors were so impressed with these tinny pieces of artwork that many wanted to complete their set. A heavy demand was created not in buying the sets but in completing the sets. This created a secondary market of $50 a piece for the three less popular and $75 for the Hatteras.
Even thought there was 2000 of these thumbnails made, they were so absorbed into the population that they are still just as valuable if not more than the other thumbnails which had smaller productions.
The 1998 reunion had 1500 thumbnails and the 2001 had 850
Value:
Generally a single thumbnail will go From $25 to $35 with spikes on ebay still reaching to $47
The first three reunion sets usually from $100 to $150

10.Harbour Lights Admiralty Head 1991 $103.51

Quote:
Harbour Lights Admiralty Head Excellent condition. No box, No COA, No sticker on bottom. It is clearly market #553 of 5500 stamped 1991. Not a knockoff. Actually a gift from Bill Younger himself. Somewhere along the line I have lost the box and COA.
The going price for a Canadian Admirlty Head with original box is from $150 to $200 with spikes up to $295. This one is a fine example of how not having the box affects the value. I would have to say that is the going price for a Canadian without box.

Great report Daniel. It is certainly nice to see the Pharos Collection going up in value.

Thanks, Daniel! This type of information helps people like me a whole lot. I am happy to see that I have done well in the acquisition of my thumbnail collection. Maybe it will encourage (or not) some folks to part with the two thumbnails for which I am still hunting!

It helps me too. I learned some things too.

I never knew there was a gray felt Whaleback.

Also I didn't know all the differences there are between the two CH-1. I always knew them as white tip and green tip. Using the recourses on this forum, ebay and talking to a collector that has seen many of the Ch-1, I was able to come up with all the differences I listed.

Thanks for the report, Dan. It shows there still is somewhat of a secondary market for certain HL's out there. I appreciate the time you spend preparing your report and sharing that info with us.

Thanks again for keeping us "in the loop" regarding the pricing. I continue to flounder regarding my feelings about the future pricing of these lighthouses. While I understand the market today is at best "flat", I still think the uniqueness of HL's pieces will enhance their future value.

Thanks again for your hard work. smile

The best thing that happened to Harbour Lights was all the variations and the different manufacturers. Probably at the time these things were probably major stress problems for HL. But the Collectability of HL is still strong because even the largest collectors still lack some variations. These keeps the interest going for many collectors while they still search for a Split rock MI or a CH-2 with the white stripe starting at the door. How about the MUUKILTEO or an open edition Skip Jack Nancy and a Yacht Kim. Just to mention a few of the extremely rare HL

The hunting is a lot of fun; when I find one, it's always beyond my means, but the fun of the chase is great!

Thanks, Daniel, for such a great report. Your report done either earlier this year or late last year of that week's sales, is what got me interested in the Forum. I ran into it almost by accident, and as I had purchased 3 or 4 of the items mentioned that week, I was grateful to hear about the items I had purchased and your great incite to the market as a whole. I lost track of this site after that and found it not too long ago, when I joined. If it weren't for your wonderful incite and thorough report on the lighthouses mentioned, I probably never would have looked for the site again. I thank you very much for that.

Thanks for the support.
If I may say, your name may not be well known on this forum but on ebay when it comes to Harbour Lights it’s real well known. I too am planning on collecting them all but on a slower pace.

Feel free to discuss any variations that you have come across, I am sure it would be interesting.

I've gotta say I'm a little surprised there's no 5th order Fresnel's in that batch. Last year as I remember they we're going pretty high.
