Top Ten on Ebay 3/27/05
Sorry late again

1. 100 Harbour Lights LLOM $545

Brand New In their Boxes. They are : 5 Cape Lookout NC, 4 Barnegat NJ, 5 Bolivar TX, 5 New London Ledge Connecticut, 1 Gay Head Massachussetts, 3 Cape Florida FL, 4 Boston Harbor Massachussets, 5 Cape Hatteras NC, 4 St Augustine FL, 2 Eagle Bluff Wisconsin, 4 Holland MI, 1 Highland Light Ma, 5 Heceta Head OR, 1 Currituck Beach NC, 5 Split Rock Minnesota, 6 Point Arena CA, 5 Southeast Block RI, 1 Morris Island SC, 4 Tybee Island, 5 St Simons Georgia, 2 Montauk Point NY, 5 Pensacola FL, 1 Sharps Island Maryland, 5 Sandy Hook NJ, 1 Ocracoke NC, 2 Hunting Island SC, 6 Nauset Beach Ma, 1 Cana Island Wi., 1 Old Saybrook Connecticut, 1 Jeffrey's Hook NY. High bidder pays $40.00 shipping. OVER $1500.00 IN LIGHTHOUSES

This comes out to $5.45 a Lighthouse. Sounds like a deal to me. Not sure what the buyer would do with all the extras but try to resell them on ebay.
I think this bid would have been more exciting if there were no duplicates.
Obvious this was not from a collector, but from a dealer or someone that bought out from a dealer and was dumping it on ebay.

2. 10 Harbour Lights Lighthouses $255
This auction is for 10 Harbour Lights Lighthouses. They are all in excellent condition. They each have a label on the bottom indicating their series, title, and #.
This is what's included:
· Ponce De Leon (Great Lighthouses of the World, Florida #408, 1996)
· Bolivar Poing (Great Lighthouses of the World, Texas #422, 1998)
· St. Simons Island (Great Lighthouses of the World, Georgia #416, 1997)
· Amelia Island (Society Exclusive, Florida #505, 1997)
· Cockspur Island (Society Exclusive, Georgia #508, 1998)
· Tybee Georgia (Signature Series, Georgia #423, Signed B. Younger, 1998)
· La Jument (France #192, 1997)
· Colchester Reef (Christmas 1996, #6832, Harbour Lights #701, 1996)
· Drum Point (Maryland #180, 1996)
· Toledo Harbor (Ohio #179, 1996)

This is $25.5 a lighthouse. This would only be a deal if you wanted these lighthouse. Other than that, as the market goes I think the seller made out. I say that because this bid is mostly GLOW’s and the more common Lighthouses. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11132&item=6163209996&rd=1

3. Boston Harbor,MA. # 117 $248.49
It has no chips or cracks, etc. and the lightning rod is intact. It comes with the original White Castle Studios box, COA and tent card. This piece does not have a Canadian sticker.

If you compare this with last year it is high. But if you compare it with the way Canadians have been going lately and with the market value of a “Canadian made Boston” over the past ten years it is the going price. A Canadian Made Boston was going for $170 to $180 last year. Sorry collectors the Harbour light give away for Canadian made Harbour Lights was last year. This year you will have to pay the premium.

4. 35 Harbour Lights LLOM $239.75
You are bidding on 35 Harbour Lights Lighthouses This Little Light Of Mine Brand New In their Boxes. They are: Cape Lookout NC, Cockspur Island Georiga, Amelia Island FL, Assateague Virginia, Barnegat NJ, Bolivar TX, New London Ledge Connecticut, Gay Head Massachussetts, Chicago Harbor IL, Cape Florida FL, Boston Harbor Massachussets, Cape Hatteras NC, St Augustine FL, Eagle Bluff Wisconsin, Holland MI, Highland Light Ma, Heceta Head OR, Currituck Beach NC, Split Rock Minnesota, Point Arena CA, Southeast Block RI, Morris Island SC, Ponce De Leon Inlet FL, St Marks FL, Tybee Island, Simons Georgia, Jeffrey's Hook NY, Montauk Point NY, Jupiter Inlet FL, Pensacola FL, Old Mackinac MI, Sharps Island Maryland, Sandy Hook NJ, Ocracoke NC, Hunting Island SC, Nauset Beach Ma. High bidder pays $25.00 shipping.

This is more like $6.86 a piece for one of a kind. This is sold by the same seller that sold the 100 LLOM.

5. Fort Niagara, NY. # 113 $188.51
This piece is # 527 of 5,500 issued. It has no chips or cracks, etc. and the lightning rod is intact. It comes with the original White Castle Studios box, COA and tent card.

This is the going price for a Fort Niagra made in Canada. This price has held throught the last 10 years of collecting. That’s why I say buy Canadian.

6. HARBOUR LIGHTS HL130 Portland Breakwater ME $182.49
This is a limited edition - VERY LOW NUMBER- #62 (!) in a release of 5,500. Signed by the artist, Tori Dawn in 1993. Comes in a brown Castle Studios box. The name of the piece was handwritten on the side of the box. Certificate of Authenticity included. Original owner - Comes from a smoke free home. No chips or cracks. Bottom felt shows some minor wear but is fully in tact.

For a Canadian made this would be considered high. But the fact that it a double digit signed by Tori Dawn and has a Castle studios box I would say it went low. The fact that it has a brown Castle studios box even makes it more interesting. I have never heard of a Brown Castle box being related to nothing else but the first 17.

My opinion of value is more like $200 to $250.

7. Harbour Lights #132 Ponce de Leon, Florida $179.95
Limited Edition #5099 of 5500. The piece has never been displayed, comes with the certificate of authenticity, and is packaged in the original box and packing. It is in near mint condition from smoke-free and pet-free home.

This is more like it. I paid $210 for mine in 98. Not bad for secondary market considering all the negative vibes toward collectables these days. Since there isn’t a Glow that represents the L.E. with any type of competition, there is no reason why ponce won’t keep its value. The Ponce GLOW is small and just doesn’t fill the representation like the original.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11132&item=6163769008&rd=1

8. St. Augustine Lighthouse, St. Augustine, Florida - #HL138 $167.50
This piece is number 3334 of only 5500 and is in mint condition. Its box contains a couple of vertical creases, but is otherwise in good condition. This piece comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, a registration card, and a tent (display) card.

This is the low side of the going price for an ordinary HL138 St Augustine. But if you look at the lighthouse closely you will see that this is no ordinary St Augustine. The roof of the building that is attached to the lighthouse is red. This version is not in any books but was first announced on this forum back in 1998. Since then on this forum we have traced four of them with numbers within a 130 spand. Jim Rutherford use to call things like this an Artist preference. But this Artist preference was correct. All the other St Augustine’s have the wrong color. Even the Number 8 St Augustine that was given away at the 2005 event had the wrong colored roof. I asked Kim how could have this Happened. The Artist proof that is on the early brochures show a red roof but almost all of the St Augustine has a Brownish color roof. She said that back then they had problems with quality control. Harbour lights would show them what they wanted but then the manufactures would do what they wanted.

The winner of this rare light is Bob-O. And I imagine that the bid would have gone to a lot more if there was competition. This is an example of another version that goes for a song because hardly anyone knows it’s exist. I am probably shooting myself in the leg talking about it since I don’t have one and hope to obtain one in the future for not much more than what Bob-O paid.

The big question:

How many are there?
When I come to questions like this and living here in Florida I like to use the Cockroach theory. For every Cockroach you see there are many you don’t see. Well we have seen four red roofs over a period of 6 years. We would have seen more but it has just been in the last two years that ebay has been using pictures. Since this was most likely done by one artist and he probably knew that he was painting them correctly I would say that that would rule out that only four was made. The span of numbers that I have traced so far is 130. If the numbers was consistence with the lighthouse that the artist painted that would make at least 130. My estimate of amount made is 40 to 400. Yes Bob-O, it is possible there are only 4.

9. HL114 Great Captain Island, CT $153.49
This is a limited edition - #878 in a release of 5,500. Certificate of Authenticity included. But not original box. Original owner - Comes from a smoke free home. No chips or cracks. Lightening rod is in tact. Bottom felt shows some minor wear but is fully in tact.

This is the version with the number 1863 over the door. On the high side for last year’s prices but I feel this will be the going price For a Canadian Without original box for this year. The Canadian Great Captain only had around 1000 made. Production switched to Malaysian around 1200 so it’s not as easy to find a Canadian made like it is an Admiralty Head or Cape Hatteras. Also it’s not easy to find one with an original box. I have tracked 6 of the Canadian made on ebay and not one has the original box. I feel this is an other sleeper.

10. Southeast Block Island Lighthouse - Block Island, Rhode Island - #HL128. $141.38
Number 5213 of only 5500. This piece is in mint condition and its box is in very good condition. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, a registration card, and a tent (display) card.

Going price. But since it has never been displayed and it looks brand new I feel that it is on the low side.

Great report. Especially the report on the "Red Roof" St. Augustine. Of the four that we know about how many were in Florida. I know mine was bought at the St. Augustine light. I think another was bought in Daytona. Where were the others bought. BOBO: where was yours bought or where was the seller located. That only leaves one more and I know the person is on the Forums. That is 3 out of 4 known belonging to Forum members.

Actually the Red roof St Augustine from Daytona would make the fifth one. I don’t have the number for that one and forgot to count it. The Collector from Daytona that you are talking about sold her RRSA to a Lady (Cheri) out my way in 98. Later on that year Cheri announced it on the forum and never told the number. She never registered on the forum or I would email her.

One of the other owners is from Pennsylvania

Great report. Enjoy all the info. Maybe we won' sell our collection after all. We have 12 extras of original 17 still in boxes that we might sell, need to make list and get some idea what their worth. Wayne

Another great report, Daniel! I learn something new about HL's with each one.
Needless to say my St. Augustine does not have a red roof but now I'm looking.
Thanks again!

Rich,

My red roof St. Augustine actually has a little story behind it. I bought it in 1998 from a secondary dealer(no Ebay then)from the Outer Banks. The one I have is a replacement because the first one I received came damaged. Of course I don't remember if the first one had the red roof or brown roof.(He did want it back)I didn't recognize the red roof until it was brought up in the forum several months ago. Mine is number 3452 and like Daniel has mentioned, they all seem to be pretty close to this number.

I'd say Bob got a great deal. I bought mine back when St. Augy was hot. There was no Ebay then and I paid $451.00 for it.

Unless we push this "red roof" issue quite a bit more, I might not ever recover the 451 bucks.

Oh well. laugh laugh Let's keep pushin'!

Your above post got me thinking, Rich. Maybe you should write to Kim and ask if you can put your inquiry into the Legacy with your email address or home address. I would imagine the Legacy must reach a much wider group than the CF. Maybe you might get a few replies from other "red roof" owners.

Yes
I knew I wouldn't have time to make one for April so I went and pasted all the short cuts for the top ten in April. As most of you know, the Highest sold list only stays active for two weeks. But the actual site stays active for 6months. The Canadians are hot, just like I said they would be and the list I have started will show that. Some of the prices that these Canadians are going for have reached ebay records. Stay tune.
