I am so pleased with the first segment of this documentary series. It was full of beautifully shot scenes and rich with historical facts. I really enjoyed the interviews with the keepers and caretakers. It was nice to see Tom, the caretaker of Navesink, diligently working on that Fresnel lens. He was so nice when we visited there last year. I must have listened to him for an hour and was absolutely fascinated by him. Can't wait for the rest of the series!!! Kudos to PBS!!!

I agree. It was the fastest hour I can recall in a long time. I was especially glad they took the viewer inside Rose Island. Now I'm looking forward to the HL piece even more.

yOU CAN'T GO WRONG WHEN SHOWING AND TALKING ABOUT LIGHT HOUSES. PBS a great show, I would have been disappointed in anything less than great from you.

For those who missed the 1st series, don't miss the next.

It was hard to believe we were just on Rose Island with the same guide on Friday and here she was on PBS. It was great to be able to say we were at the same lighthouses a few days ago.

I agree that PBS did a fine job on the opening segment - I expect the rest of it will be as good. It was especially nice to see Beavertail & a couple of other RI lights only a day removed from having seen them firsthand. The Rose Island piece provided all the incentive I need to make reservations for an extended stay!!

Thanks to Lighthouse Depot who got a copy of the videos from this great series to us on Friday, we were able to watch the "World Premier" during the three hour ride from Providence to Portland Head.

John Gaskill, son of the last lighthouse keeper at Bodie Island NC joined us for all three tours and kept up with everyone! He is featured in the series episode on the Atlantic lighthouses and our bus broke into applause when he appeared on screen.

The accompanying book was written by Ray Jones with photographs by Bruce Roberts (except for the TV stills).

If you can't catch every episode, the set of videos is available from Lighthouse Depot now.

Bill Younger appears in the episode on California Lighthouses - for about 2-3 minutes (they filmed for 3.5 hours.) If you have a sharp eye (or use the pause button on your VCR after taping, you might be able to spot some Harbour Lights of the future on the table.

Although it will be different among the many PBS stations, at least for those viewers in the SE Virginia viewing area, the remaining five segments of the Legendary Lighthouse series will be shown at 8pm on Oct 12, 26, and Nov 9, 23, and 30. This is in accordance with a reply I got back from my inquiry to the PBS station in Norfolk. Hope this helps my "peninsula" and "tidewater" HL aficianados.
