There will be signing event with Bill in Grand Rapids Mich on Saturday, August 26th. Time is 1 to 3 PM.

Robinette's Gift Barn
3142 Four Mile Rd NE
Grand Rapids MI 49525
800-GFT-BARN

According to Alicia Robinette, they will be serving refreshments and having door prizes. She did ask that if you want a CHOTM event piece that you please call and reserve one.

Sign in if you plan to go, and don't forget your Wacko pin. I have a feeling at least one Saint plans on being there.

I e-mailed Alicia Robinette about the restriction of bringing your own lighthouses to be signed by Bill and she has graciously rescinded it and collectors will be allowed to their lighthouses to be signed.

I suggested that a limit of 2 or 3 per person per trip through the line might be a fair way for all to get their lighthouses signed.

Alicia explained that while this is not the first Bill signing for the store, it is the first for her and she just wasn't sure how other stores did it.

If you are in the area, I would encourage you to stop in as they have a really nice store with lots of quality items and a lot of very nice Harbour Lights in stock. Sue and I stopped there a couple of weeks ago and are going to be there again this Saturday.

Tall ships only in one day? You really ought to be able to plan to get to both, Larry. The tall ships are great to see, but the chance to visit with Bill is truly a special one. You won't regret it.

Larry, come to the event first and then swing by South Haven on the way back to Holland. The ships are available until 6pm according to the information that I have read about the South Haven event. South Haven is only about an hour drive from Grand Rapids, interstate all the way, well almost all the way.

We are heading out on a mini-excellent adventure, with brand new powerbook in hand. I hope to post some images right after the signing at Robinettes on Saturday. The Bradys hope to see some of you there!

I ordered my CHOTM piece last week. I called today to set up shipment from them to me, since I was not going to be able to get there on Sat. It is just a little too far from Detroit for a 1 day trip. I was told they were expecting a BIG crowd as they already had 69 pre-paid orders for CHOTM.

I hope it is a good day for everyone.

Alicia Robinette was the main greeter and a very gracious hostess to the collectors who attended the event at their store. A long line of collectors had already formed when Bill arrived an hour before the 1 PM starting time. Bill quickly signed all of the event pieces that the store had sold to those who weren't able attend the actual signing.

There was a nice steady line of collectors, including a couple of fellow forum members, who I hope will share their own thoughts here.

After about an hour, there was a couple who shared hugs with Bill and gave him a couple of newspaper articles about the restoration work of a couple of lighthouses (I couldn't see the actual names of the lighthouses) and they shared some thoughts with Bill. They didn't have any lighthouses with them to sign which I thought was a little different but, as they said their good byes, Bill referred to their recent retirement and asked if they will miss running their store sometimes. It then clicked on the bulb... these were former Harbour Lights dealers and had stopped by to say hi to their friend, Bill Younger. It was a very neat moment!

I enjoy reading about these events and signings almost as much as I enjoy attending them.

Well I went to my first event in Grand Rapids and it was really very cool. I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Brady and others in the HL world of wacko's. And as for meeting Bill Younger, Well that just sealed my fate in collecting forever. Bill and the others were very nice. I guess I can sum this up by saying "Honey pack your bags were going to Baltimore"

Hi Rob -

Welcome to the world of Harbour Lights. What a wonderful way to be introduced to the Harbour Lights collector's world - attending a store event. Bill does get get a lot of people hooked when they meet him. Please post messages and questions here often. This is a great place to be.

On another note - I was just going to mention here about the great people and service at Robinette's. I did not attend the signing and had ordered CHOM to be shipped. I received a UPS notice on Tuesday and picked it up at the UPS depot on Wed. What great shipping service from the store. (P.S. - what a great looking piece. It will go nicely with my other HL Hatteras piece.) Also when I called to place the order, I was treated very nicely and with friendly voices. I would recommend this dealer to others who do not have local dealers. I do not know if they ship other HL items but I would not be afraid to ask them. If their in person service is as great as their phone service, then I am sorry I live so far from them.
