Colonia del Sacramento,Uruguay,another lighthouse.More information for those lighthouse lovers! Enjoy,Bob Frassinetti.Buenos Aires,Argentina.

Colonia is one of the most beautiful places in the Uruguayan river
coastline. Bathed by the waters of the Rio de la Plata, this town of white
sand and crystal clear water exudes history, for its appearance has not been
changed, moreover it has been consciously preserved giving this place a
sense of enchantment. Everything is walking distance, there's no need for
vehicles to be clotting the stone paved streets and ruining beautiful views,
if walking doesn't suit you, there are always other possibilities such as
bikes or motor bikes. But believe me, the walking tour around the old city
is one incredible experience.
The city has developed greatly during the last decade to make all its
visitors feel at ease. There are excellent and high quality food options,
lodging is vary but always of excellence, and there are lots of spectacles.
As Montevideo, Colonia was always a coveted position in the Rio de la Plata
for its strategic location in the river flow and to the huge Buenos Aires.
Ruled for a while by the Portuguese, Colonia's old city was surrounded by
tall walls, a part of which remains to our days as a statement of those days
for future generations.
In 1857, on top of the ruins of the San Francisco Javier convent, the local
government built the lighthouse that remains working to our days, the
cylindrical brick tower's lower half is square and the upper half circular.
A big architectural innovation at the time where one can see the converge of
Arabic architectural trends with European ones. Located at the Lat. S Long.
W: 34°28`22``// 57°51`06`` coordinates, this incredible building stands upon
the gorgeous colonial city, expressing a sustended grandiosity, still
active, this historical monument keeps on with its job: bringing to safe
land all those intrepid sailors who arrive to the Colonia coasts seeking
peace out of the noisiness of the city.
