In all my born days, I have never made as many trips to the dentist as I have recently. Altho' the doc lives across the street from me and I have watched him grow up, go to college, and marry and raise a family....I only saw him three times a year in the office....two weeks ago one of my upper teeth lost the front side...CROWN....and this morning one of my 12 year molars lost half of the front...so, I'm back to the dentist...I told the doctor I was going to charge him for looking in my mouth....it would be interesting to know what other dentist cost for a crown...since I will be paying for two in one month.....The only good news is he takes VISA and I can get airmiles while I pay thru the teeth!

She was so disappointed that she didn't win a gold Cape St. George, but I never thought she she would resort to trying for a golden tooth. Much less, two of them!

Derith, you should be glad that at your advanced age you still have teeth to put caps on (tic, lol, etc.). Maybe you should ask the dentist for a group rate?

I remember when I moved to Arizona in 1984 I needed a quick dental fix - the new dentist said "I see you're no stranger to Dentistry."
"No," I replied. "You must have put some Dentist's kids through college." he said.

Caps then were about $395. Last one I got was $750.

And you wonder why they were called 'caps' then and now are called 'jackets'? Much more 'clothing' so they can charge more.

Next time they need a price increase, they will call them 'overcoats' or 'jumpsuits'.

Fortunately, the new generation is much better off. Chris is 16 and has never had a cavity. Of course the orthodonture would have paid for a community college education.

The first one, Sue, I was eating a Pepperidge Farms fish cracker and the one yesterday I was eating bacon.....Mr. Cheap Shot is probably right, at my advanced age, but then my husband has had to have one recently too. Probably the water from our "raising up" days. Anyway, Dave, didn't mean to give you fuel for a fire, just wanted to know what other dentist around the states cost...mine are $600.

Thank goodness dentistry has improved over the years. I remember as a kid my family dentist telling me to 'tell him if it hurts'. But the unique thing was he was VERY HARD OF HEARING and wore two hearing aids!!!
Every time I worry at the new dentist I think of the old one and all seems right with the world!!

Actually, the $600 is probably a discount for the "nice lady across the street who watched me grow up". I had a tooth capped several years ago, and between what I paid & what the insurance paid I believe it was past your $600. (and my dentist's prices are at the lower end of the scale around here.)

Look at the positive side - more air miles = more lighthousing (but it may have to be day trips; no overnites in a hotel while you pay off the dental work.)

Ugh Nana! I too had a molar split in half as a result of a poor root canal that was done. Needless to say, I am now going to another dentist. Last year, my new dentist charged me nearly $1000.00 for a crown.

Heck with the dentist! Give me a call and I can probably dig up a few "slightly used" crowns and caps. Just scrape off the dirt and they're "Good As New"!!!!

Seeing that Digger has gone into the subject "in depth" I may as well add this.

After my Dad passed away and I took possession of the old homestead. One day while going through the "junk drawer" in the kitchen I found a few of his old crowns/caps and they were gold! Probably the only gold this gal will see anytime soon!

Been there... got the crowns and the t-shirt... two last year and the worst was when I replaced one this year. Do you have any idea how hard it is to remove one them there crowns..... a dentist and two assistants against me and my jaw!!

I just had a gold crown replaced (after 26 years) and it cost me about $700. That's a whole lotta HL's. Still have to have two more teeth capped/crowned/jacketed (even more HL's).

Paul, removing yours didn't have to be so difficult. My dentist used some specialized tool to slice the old crown up one side and over the top. He then just spread it apart and off it came easy as can be. You might want to look around for another dentist!

Rip may be right with the KKs...Thought of all of you when I was eating some hot KKs on Sunday.....but, the first crown is on and I can wait a few months for the other one.....at least I can have a few $$$$ while I am in Baltimore to spend.

I was finally able to get back at my dentist for a few decades of 'paying through the teeth'....I designed his new dentist office, and a year later his new home. This time he had to pay me outrageous fees! LOL. I always have to go back to him, so he'll eventually get the last laugh though. His house was larger and more elaborate than most doctor's and attorney's houses I have designed, good dentists are definately making a killing.

Does anyone remember the good old days when they gave you the laughing gas to put you out, instead of the big needles?
