Today I watched some of the service for Brett...he sounded like a "heck of a great guy" doing what he so loved doing...
Firefighters Prayer When I am called to duty,God wherever the flames may rage, give me the strength to save some lives, whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child, before it is too late, or save any older person, from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert, and hear the weakest shout, and quickly and efficiently, to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling, and to give the best in me, to guard my every man and, protect his property.
And if according to your will, I have to loose my life, please bless with your protecting hand, my children and my wife.
God Bless Robin & their three daughters... Ruthie & Terry

My Thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Brother Firefighter Tarver.
This hits very close to home for me. We had a house fire one block from my station on Friday night. The home owner was killed and three of our firefighters were taken to the hospital with what turned out to be relatively minor injuries. You can take all of the safety precautions you want, but fires are unpredictable and you just never know. http://www.bc.mlive.com/news/index.ssf?/news/stories/20010317bfire$01.frm
Having attended funerals for fellow firefighters and for police officers, I can tell you that they are something you never forget. When the bagpipes start playing Amazing Grace.....it is giving me the chills just thinking about it.
Once again, my thoughts and prayers are with the Tarver family and the members of the PFD.

The laying to rest of a firefighter or police officer is always a grim reminder of how fragile life is. Enjoy life while you can. You never know what could happen tomorrow.

"You never know what can happen tomorrow"... Very well put, Bob. This story hit very close to home for me as well and as I read the article that John posted above, tears filled my eyes. Firefighters have the dreadful job of facing death on a daily basis, whether it be there own or whomever they're trying to save. The fire I had at my apartment last June showed me just how dedicated these "caring" individuals really are. Everytime I see a firetruck, rescue squad or police car going on a call, I can't help but think that there is someones life in danger and these public servent's are going to try and intervene with there own. They have my highest respect and deepest gratitude.
