Wackos should be receiving their pins any time soon now. Lamar has kept the post office almost as busy as the Christmas holiday mail overflow! Being on the committee, I got my pin a bit early in order to look it over carefully before it was officially sent out to you. And I think the pin looks great.

It is a new pin process and really shows off the HL sculpture and Paul Brady's photographic work. The question was asked: is it cloissone? It is not, as that process would not have worked to show off the detail of the lighthouse sculpture. We also wanted a pin style that would be different from the HL membership pin, and one which is distinctly a wacko "style". These pins will nicely complement your sculpture. There is also a written history of the lighthouse, which can be put in a binder.

Here is a suggestion for displaying your wacko pin at home, plus all your HL membership pins and the tin HL buttons. I have a corner in my tiny condo, that is my lighthouse display area for the smaller items. I have several very small cabinets which hold the ornaments and the Spy Glass sculptures. On the wall above are my framed membership and larger Mark Sherman prints. And from ceiling to floor I have a 4 inch wide "velvet" ribbon. The top edge is glued once around a 4 inch wide narrow piece of wood which has two gold-tone picture hangers attached. The bottom edge needs to be glued around something heavy to insure that the ribbon hangs straight down. On this ribbon I have pinned all of my tin buttons, HL pins, our club pin, and now my wacko pin. It makes a colorful display and acts as a dividing border on the wall between my lighthouse items and other items. It is hard to find a 4 inch wide ribbon, which is the width you need for those tin buttons. During the Christmas season, go to a florist who makes custom wreaths which need LARGE bows, and they will have this width. The only color I could get was red, but maybe you will have more choices.

Very soon, I will be asking you to post your nominations for the 2001 pin. So naturally, the committee would like to get your "reviews" or evaluation here on the 2000 pin right after you receive
it.

Lamar and I will be looking at this thread each day and welcome hearing from you.

Just arrived in the mail today. Really put a on my face.
They are well done and "Hat's off to the group" for the job they did.
As for next year's pin.... What's the status on the Pottawatomie Lighthouse project? Maybe we could help that one??? It doesn't matter which one we help but THAT we help.

Keep the Flame,
Richard

I received my pin yesterday. A lot of work went into making this pin and it's truly appreciated. A great job was done and it resulted in an excellent pin. Thanks to all involved. When I look at it, it makes me feel good because I hope that all of us were able to help Morris Island.

Wonderful pin - makes me sad that I do not have the ability to buy the Morris Island pieces.

Thank you all for the work and love you put into this project. I really enjoy the note about the lighthouse you included.

As for displaying the pins, you might find the wide ribbon at an arts and crafts store or someplace like a JoAnn Fabrics store.

Jim: I am so glad you like the history write-up on the pin. As for the ribbon ---- we looked at Joann'e Fabrics, Michael's Crafts, and about a dozen other store's craft departments. Everyone had 3 inch ribbon, which is not wide enough to put the tin badges on and have ribbon behind the edges of the badges. The 4 inch ribbon we could only find at a florist at Christmas time when bigger wreaths and bows are custom made.

I want to thank all of the wackos who have posted here. Your comments on the pins have made both Lamar and myself most happy and made our many hours sure worth it.

Start thinking of new nominees for 2001 lighthouse vote. Instructions will be posted by the end of this week.

Keep Those Flames Burning --- Think 2001 donation project. Put your extra change in the jar for the new pins!!

I LOVE THESE WACKO PINS !!! What a wonderful job of designing a tribute to a life saving legacy. And to think we WACKOS are the privileged ones to wear them. Thanks to everyone who worked on the design you did a wonderful job. ;Avery Point would be a good one to help. It seems to have been on the doomsday list from Lighthouse Digest for quite a while.
