Tony has announced elsewhere that there will be a very special limited edition of 250 pieces available exclusively from the Calvert Marine Museum at the Maryland Lighthouse Challenge.

I made a quick call to the Calvert Marine Museum gift shop and found that they will hold your order with a credit card (to be charged in September). Debbie is working alone today - 410-326-2750.

The gift shop has NOT been told which lighthouse this is - and they may not know in advance. The price is $28 each. Free shipping or pick it up. Sales tax if you pick it up or have it shipped to Maryland.

Each piece numbered - your option to have it signed by Bill Younger.

I think from the price, you can assume this is a Little Light size piece, perhaps a screwpile. (Drum Point is on the grounds, but again, even the museum has not been told which piece.)

#1-10 are sold and a few other numbers have been selected, but if you act now, you'll avoid the rush when HL sends out an email, maybe later today, according to Debbie.

I've reserved mine. Not sure if I'm going to pick it up or have it shipped.

Mine is on order also. Kind of neat to be ordering something I haven't seen or even know what it is. I like these small editions, as you can't go wrong getting in on the act.

I got number 26

There are no replacements for these.
If you number ends up being one that is damaged you will be given a different number out of a batch of 20 that are being held back for replacements. Whats this means that unless everone of these are perfect the total amount will be less than 250.

I just got off the phone making my order.

I doubt i'll be able to make the challenge this year- too much already planned lighthouse and otherwise.

I'm going to try and hit the Triple Crown of Challenges in 2009.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I have been waiting all day for more information on this piece since Tony C posted earlier about a limited edition run of 250. Nothing posted on the Calvert Marine Museum website as of yet.

Don't know what the piece is, and don't care, as long as it is a Chesapeake Bay lighthouse and I am able to add it to my collection!

Looking forward to this "special piece" at the MD Lighthouse Challenge in September! wink

As of 3:30 PM ET, the store manager, Maureen reports about 60 sold so far. (25% of the 250) Still time to get yours. But don't wait too long.

If you have a specific number you collect, they can probably help you out.

She is very happy with the sales so far.

I just ordered my Calvert Marine Museum piece. I asked for #111, because that is the number I collect with LE's.

Bill will sign. $27.95 with free shipping and no tax. What a deal!

Cathy,

It's the same as it has been since 2005- you do the New Jersey, Maryland and Long Island Lighthouse Challenges in the same calendar year and you get an additional certificate signifying that you are a complete Lighthouse Wacko. laugh

I've done all 3 challenges but not in the same year so it doesn't count.

How many are being held back by Calvert Marine Museum, for the Lighthouse Challenge. Can they sell them all before the event.

I don't think they are holding any back for the Challenge. It's not something to honor or mark the challenge.

This is a pleasant change. Usually those that go to the event get the best Pickings. But this time those who follow this forum daily got the first shot at the double digits and special numbers. The forum collector finally got his deserved special treatment.

Thanks Tony & Debbie and everyone else that was involved

Wow, what you have the potential to miss out on if you don't read the Forums everyday! Fortunately, the Museum still had nbrs 68 & 69 which match the Aux LLOM I got.

I got number 19 when a reserved mine. Debbie at the museum said I was the forth call she received that day.

While I'm looking forward to getting this one, I would have preferred it being a regular sized LE. I would have paid as much as three time more for a LE version.

I agree... I would have preferred a larger piece as well. When it come to Chesapeake Bay or Maine Lighthouses, the "sky is the limit" regarding price.

However, I welcome any Chesapeake Bay Light no matter what size the replica is!

I look forward to seeing an image of what everyone is pre-ordering sometime in the future.

NOt sure as to the size but TOny has said that it's not a LLOM and it is a limited edition.

Quote:
1.) The Three Year Series is not a LLOM (sorry) But will encompass over seventy-eight years of Lighhouse Lore - you eill be able to trace "The Origins and History"

2.) Yes the 250 Limited Edition is inconjunction with the Maryland Challenge. Thie Replica ONLY available at the Cavert Marine Museum. I do not often say this but in my humble opinion, EVERY tru HL Collector will want this Replica It is VERY special! (Sorry to sound like a Salesman)

was in reference to the Christmas piece this year..

Below is Tony's original post that the one you quoted was in reference to:

Good Monday Morning!

I was a bit concerned to read that rthere were two "Musings" Posts that did not receive much speculation:

1 - A NEW Three Year Christmas Series

2. A Limited Edition of 250 pieces.

The 3-year series refers to the Christmas piece. This year will begin a 3-year series. It will probably become pretty obvious over this weekend when the pieces are introduced, although only the first in the series will be shown.

I just placed my order this morning with Debbie.

She said the HL piece will be Thomas Point. I hope that's what everyone wants that has placed an order. smile

I don't think many will be happy if its Thomas Point. I was hoping for one thats never been done before.

The LE and GLOW of Thomas Point are exceptional already, plus there is LLOM already.

I'm only for redoing replica's that the original didn't do proper justice.

I guess you could say, "The Cats out of the bag!"

Doesn't matter to me, if the piece is going to be Thomas Point. Thomas Point isn't called the "crown jewel of the Cheseapeake Bay" for nothing.

I thought I read somewhere years ago that Thomas Point was Bill Youngers favorite lighthouse. If HL says it is going to be a "special piece" then I believe it is indeed going to be a "special piece" if Bill has anything to do with it. Look out!! cool

This would mean that there will be five versions of this same lighthouse. The original limited edidition, the glow signature piece, the llom, the ornament, and a second limited edition. I think it is fundamentally wrong to have two limited editions of the same piece.

I would normally agree wholeheartedly with you, but I think this is more like a limited version of a LL for a very special occasion!! Sort of like what was done with the Round Island little light for the last Reunion and the Seven Foot Knoll LL at the Reunion before..

I have purchased one of these pieces and I am sure I will be pleased with it. However I was hoping that the piece would be Upper Rear Range light of Craighill. This light could have been quite special since two of the other Craighill Range lights had been produced as thumbnails at the reunion in Baltimore.

The numbered special edition LL is being done to celebrate Bill's attendance at the Maryland Challenge. Bill has often indicated his special affinity for Thomas Point. While TP is not one of the challenge lights, there is a cruise to view it on Friday before the challenge, along with some of the other off shore lights that are not on the "official" list. Since Bill will be at the Calvert Marine Museum, it is logical they would be the ones to sell it. Many participants would be happy to get a special souvenir in the form of a screwpile light even though it is not Drum Point.

I would agree that another Thomas Point was not what I was looking for. This lighthouse has been very well done already and in my opinion another was not needed. With this being said I still will keep my order, I’m just disappointed that it wasn’t a light not made before.

I am there. I'll call this weekend with my mom's card number.

Being from Maryland and having climbed Thomas Point Light, I have all of the previous Thomas Point editions. Even though I would have preferred another light for this event, I ordered mine this morning, #70. It will be intereasting to see what is "Special" about this piece.

As a young boy, Bill Younger was transfixed by Thomas Point Lighthouse. Lighthouses on the Chesapeake and beyond became a fascination of the young boy.

When the Younger Family made a decision to create their own line of collectibles, it was Bill who insisted that the line should be of replicas of lighthouses.

At the Tidewater Regional last year, I asked collectors to donate funds to Thomas Point Lighthouse with the goal of raising a minimum of $5,000 to have one of the lighthouses' screwpile legs permanently named after Bill Younger.

We took up a collection then, and Bill auctioned off a gold piece donated by Jerry Siatkowski that brought a bid of $1,000 from Ron Foster. Funds raised through drawings during Dave's pre-regional tours were combined with those raised at the regional.

Recently, the Beacons of the Bay club disbanded and before disbanding, the leadership voted to donate the remaining $2,000 in the treasury to the Screwpile fund at Thomas Point.

This put the fund over the $5,000 minimum goal.

The special LL129 of Thomas Point was created by Harbour Lights to recognize the honor that collectors have given Bill Younger in arranging for the naming of the screwpile.

The version being sold by Calvert Marine Museum's Gift Shop is identical to other LL129 except that it has a special backstamp:

On Friday, September 14, Bill will be given a personal tour of the Thomas Point Lighthouse (his first-ever visit) and a plaque will be unveiled naming the screwpile and thanking Harbour Lights collectors. Bill will also be presented with #1/250 of the special event piece.

About 100 of the pieces have been spoken for; still time to order yours by calling the Calvert Marine Museum Gift Shop 410-326-2750. Income from the sales of the gift shop support the programs of the Calvert Marine Museum including Drum Point and Cove Point lighthouses.

Thanks for the great wealth of information and image (special backstamp)!!!!

So now we know the "rest of the story" and what we are all pre-ordering for.

Here I thought this special piece was going to be the "missing and mysterious" HL698!

Looking forward to that "special" weekend....

FYI: I'm seeing a nice trend here in 2007 of these "special backstamps". So anybody know what the next LLOM "special backstamp" is? I have an idea.....

Placed our order today. Got numbers 82 & 83.

Thomas Point was the first HL my wife and I got.
She gave it to me as a first anniversary gift.
Bill has since signed it "our First".

This specail LL will be a great edition to our LE Thomas Point.

Thomas Point Shoal is my all time favorite lighthouse! I was excited when the Chesapeake Chapter and the Annapolis Maritime Museum (I am a member of both) was able to purchase it. I have been on a tour and look forward to being able to volunteer more of my time at the light.
I just ordered #87. I am so glad they are shipping (free!) since I will be volunteering at one of the Northern most lights for the Maryland Challenge.

Received my special limited edition 26/250 of the LLOM Thomas point, Friday. There are still 40 of these left for those that are still interested.

Recieved my two lighthouse on Friday number 55 and 56. I'm suprised that this issue has not sold out with only 250 being made.

Note that the later version of LL129 that was used for this special edition differs in many ways from the first ,original offering of LL129 pictured in John's post above of 6/11.

The later version is
1. taller by almost a 1/2 inch
2. Cupola windows are painted gray not blue as with original issue
3. Lantern room walkway is painted with white detail vs. all black on first issue
4.Lantern room window frames painted black vs blue/white
5. Water is a slight shade different in color.
6. Metal work is a tuscan red rather than brown of the original issue
7. The cottage "red" is a red/brown rather than the red/orange of the original issue.
8. The pictures on the box labels also show these differences.

If you find other variations/changes that I missed let us know.

Mine arrived over the weekend and I like it.

Great obversation Jazzer.
I am glad you found that there are differances.
That is good news that there is more than just a stamp.

Great interaction in this thread. The more interaction indicates more interest. This is just what Harbour Lights needs to add to the core of collectors. I truly believe Harbour Lights is heading in the right direction when it comes to marketing their fine product.

I received my #19 on Saturday.

This is my one and only LLOM. I had reserved it as soon as John had posted the info on it. I didn't know it was going to be a LLOM or Thomas Point at the time I reserved it.

Here are images of the original Thomas Point LL (left) and the Special Edition Thomas Point LL (center).. You ca tell that the screwpiles are longer on the Special edition... The Gold one and the other two for height comparison shows the Gold is about the same as the Special Edition one, which tells me that the Thomas Point LL now being produced have longer screwpiles....

OH MAN!!! eek

See what you miss when you don't have full time Internet for a while. And only check "Today's Active Topics" when you do get on-line. frustrated

Gee I hope they still have some of these! I'm going to call first thing in the morning, and hope that I get lucky.

Got my #70, and am pleased with that it differs in size with the original, as I have that also. Having visited and climbed Thomas Point Light, I have purchased every edition of B ill Younger's favorite lighthouse. (except the Gold)
