I never met Frank but had many emails back and forth with his Grandson who would dispel his legend of being cantakerous. They put a website up to pay tribute to their Granddad a few years ago. On it they recall growing up with 'Grandpa Lighthouse'. Coney Island Lighthouse (This website is having problems currently)

http://www.nynewsday.com/news/local/brooklyn/ny-bc-ny--obit-lighthouseke1212dec12,0,6324965.story?coll=nyc-topheadlines-left

...Looks like essentially the same article as the obituary above, but different print date

The Contra Costa Times obituary is from the New York Times, which is renowned for its well-written obits.

I received a nice email note from Scott Schubert, Franks grandson in response to a note I emailed to him:

Quote:
Thank you for writing. I, and the rest of the family, appreciate the support during this time. He was definitely a great man. To me, he was not just a hero, but certainly the greatest human being that I will ever know. The website was the least I could do to show my respect for him and his life, even while he still was with us. He always appreciated people who showed interest in the Coast Guard, lighthouses, and he most appreciated your basic good friendliness and conversation. He will be greatly missed by us and many, and again, thank you for writing and your support.

- Scott
