The 2003 Wacko Pin benefitting the Bodie Island Light went in the mail Wednesday morning.
I also sent a check to the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society in the amount of $1717.21 on behalf of all pin purchasers. Thanks everyone for supporting this year's Wacko Pin Project. Our donation goes towards the matching grant which acutally means your efforts resulted in $3434.42 for their restoration project.

My Wacko pin committee members have worked very hard this year, and I am so proud to see the end result that they have achieved. Our check, considering the matching value it brings in, represents the largest amount we have sent to a lighthouse so far. And this could not have been achieved without the generosity of all of you Forum members. Thank you from us all.
The committee is already at work on the next 2004 Wacko pin. Dennis Whelan is in the midst of obtaining legal paperwork from the lighthouse which won the election. As soon as he has achieved this, he will be posting the name of next year's recipient lighthouse for the Wacko pin funds.
Do stay tuned please. And keep the flame burning brightly over the summer through your various lighthouse volunteer activities.

2004 Pin Committee members are: Lamar Bevil, Darlene Cook, Ruthie Cooper, Henry Hupp, Randy Kramer, Susan LeFever, Dennis Whelan.

John & Karen,
You're a bit early for purchasing the 2004 Pin. It won't be on sale until Spring 2004.
We haven't even announced the Winner yet!
I can say only this at this point in time- I will be making that particular announcement very, very soon.

I received word from the president of OBLHS, that the funds we sent for Bodie Island are not eligible for matching grant funds after all. My mistake. Still $1,700 isn't shabby. Thanks to you all who purchased pins and worked on the committee. We can be proud of what we accomplished together.

I received my pin as well. Very nice work! The real gift is to Bodie and I am delighted I was a part of that effort. Terrific work folks ....and it is nice to be associated with WACKOS.

On behalf of The Outer Banks Lighthouse Society, I want to give a HUGE thanks to Darlene and Lamar, and the entire Wacko Pin Committee for a fantastic job! Thanks to each of you who purchased a pin. Your check from this project has been received and goes directly to the Bodie Island Lighthouse Fund. Hopefully, in a very few years, when you make a visit to the Outer Banks, you will be able to climb the lighthouse...and with any luck...the First Fresnel Lens will also still be in place. Each of you...please know that OBLHS is extremely grateful for your generous donation! Judy Castleberry Vice President & Director of Fundraising Outer Banks Lighthouse Society

On Saturday, I received a very nice letter from Cheryl Shelton-Roberts, President of OBLHS that I want to share [in part] with you all . . . Dear Darlene, On behalf of the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society and its Bodie Island Fund, I would like to thank you and your colleagues for such a generous donation from the sales of the Wacko Pin. We are elated to receive the donation and add to our growing fund.
. . .
I announced your donation to our board members and Lamar has given me a few details to include in the July newsletter for our members to read. This may encourage other donations.
Thank you for all you do for the lighthouse community. We are at a critical time in our lighthouses' history with conveyance of hundreds to other entities, saving the Fresnel lenses, and restoration of these icons of our American maritime heritage.
Sincerely wishing you fair winds and following seas, /s/ Cheryl S. Roberts Thank you one and all for supporting the Wacko Pin Project now in our fifth year. Darlene
