Not really a variation but, just a small bit of trivia. It appears that all the posted photos of Kilauea including one of the postcards (the one with the piece only pictured) appear to be that of an Artist's Proof. The only photo that I have found that is a match to the actual piece is the postcard with Bill holding it. Should be easy to spot the difference.

It looks like I'm becoming a Wacko!

Yep, good eye Richard - almost all HL publicity photos depict pre-release versions of the models. Typically the most obvious difference is the lack of a railing around the lens room. Take a look at the 'Preview of '99 Introductions' on the HL-dot-com site to see other photos of 'beta' models. Or check a Lighthouse Depot catalog to see earlier years. HL has been using photos of pre-release models for as long as I can remember.
