WACKO Bar Raised to 50 Posts - 03/27/99 09:12 AM

I got a surprise visit from the WACKO accrediting supervisory committee late last night and was told that if we were to keep our affiliation with the NOWA (National Organization of Wacko Accreditation) We need to make the apprenticeship a bit longer.

It appears that those who were granted "WACKO" status in the past few days will be able to retain that status. They MAY be required to answer certain questions about Harbour Lights until they reach the new level of 50 posts.

St. John,
I feel honored that I am wacko status but somehow I do not have that I am a wacko in my mind. YES I am getting obsessed and addicted but I feel the wacko status is more for mentors--those that have a wealth of knowledge that goes beyond addictiveness. Those that help guide and learn the HL'ers between neebies and wacko status.
Again, it is an honor but my status should be
"wacko but not in my own mind"

Do I get a new shovel when I reach 100?

I am still a Newbie on this site, but I went out and bought 5 Harbour Lights today so I must be a Wacko.

Ah, the first few steps leading down that crooked lighthouse path to WACKOdom, Turbo!

I've notified the UBB folks that we needed more interim levels. We'll see.

Isn't Wackodom really only a two step phase though?

(1) You discover HL's for the first time
(2) You suddenly become a Wacko, buying at least 3 a week until all credit is maxed.

That seems to sum it up. I don't believe I have ever seen any steps between those before.

Rod,
You might want to consider the following listed below as other phases in the process to wackoness:
1. Getting a spouse to show a little interest therefore when credit is maxed out, they say "I'll get this for you this time" when your browsing at a dealer.
2. Sending emails entitled "gift ideas" to relatives and friends.
3. Buying curio cabinets that you have no idea when you buy them where they will possibly fit in your home but you buy it anyway.

In reference to Curio Cabinets, last week I pick up a curio and the next week I picked up 5 more HL to add to the collection. Is this a coincidence, I wonder.

Turbo,
You may wonder, but we see the signs very clearly.

Hey Turbo,

You should have bought 5 curio's also. You're gonna need them.

John,
I think a short disertation (history) of our life and times with HL should surfice, with a review by a Saint, for certification of WACHO status.
You know something like:
Hi my name is ___, and I'm am A......WWWAACHOOOO, there I've said it, I've been collecting HL's for 7 months, and I have __ HL LEs including Portland Head, etc ... I feel better knowing I'm not alone(looking at the full forum around you 25,000
+ society members and 423 forum users)... I have no more space to display my collection but I must have the two new ones when the are released ...or a least all the ones in the northeast...oh, make that the east coast, ...mmmmproblem, where does the Gulf Coast of Florida end ... ok, I'll go as far as Texas... ,Alcatraz is nice...I must have Point Arena ...
And so on, and so on....

The above is only for illustrative purposes, and any resemblance to a real 'person or persons' is denied.

You could also add some intermediate steps between WACHO and the unattainable SAINT.
Like Apostle, Blessed, Martyr ... TIC

Regards,
Bob

Hey Bob,

I have spent many hours on this website, photographed many lights, written much to many, put many miles on my car, had two accidents with the car while on buying trips to other cities in Florida, paid for numerous airline tickets, spent hours planning trips, bought three curios with one more in sight, emailed the home office everyday I can, posted many replies on this forum, read so much my eyes blurr, review my collection every day, tracked down retired pieces, rearranged my pieces, talked about the whole Harbour Lights many facets, hired planes to see Florida Key lights, made phone calls all over the nation, raised the amount of money my dealer has made, campaigned for NC lights that have not been made by HL, and I am sure I have left out something I've spent money on or thought about over the last several years as a HL collector YaDa, YaDa.....Yes, I am a true HL WACKO and I might say, proud of it.

Keeping the Flame well lit,
Derith

Atta Girl Derith! Sounds like the new motto for the WACKOs!

If ever there were a Wacko, it would be you!
