Collector Forums Style Sheet Photo

After several months of using the photo of Doubling Point Lighthouse for our masthead (Thanks to Greg!), I've asked St. Paul to take over the masthead duties on a permanent basis. He managed to make the first change within 30 minutes of getting the assignment! (Thanks Paul!)

How many of you noticed the boat traveling left to right the first time you saw this pic? I know I didn't. The photo depicts a bright and sunny day on the water. I like that!

I am using an image supplied by Robert Gurskey for the Forums Masthead for June.. I decided to change one day early for Memorial Day.

Make sure the image is as close to your original as possible. I will do all of the sizing and formating of the image for the masthead..

I thought I would switch another really nice image from Ruthie as she provided several for me to use as the Forum Masthead.. The first was of course Portland Head and this is White Shoal. Ruthie provided me with several images so I thought I might as well use them.

Next month, August, will be a couple of images from Judy then I will put out the call for other collectors to send me their choices..

Love the masthead. White Shoal is one of my favorite lighthouses. I have a similar when I took the "West" boat from Sheplers in 2007. The blue water and skies are a great contrast to the candy stripes. Great job!

I did a doubletake when I saw the current photo and thought it was the shot Stan took of Heceta Head during our April trip through CA/OR/WA. Almost identical photograph, Ruthie. Two great cameras and photographers. . . .

Sandy, if you have never stayed there at the B & B you should plan to do that the next time you come to the west coast. It is magical! To be able to walk to the light after dark with only a flashlight is awesome...again I must say "it is magical." The stars are the brightest of any place I have been before. My Pixie friend introduced us to this light. We had been there before but had never stayed overnight. It is well worth the time and money to stay there. Not to mention the awesome 7 course breakfast the next morning.

That's a great shot Ruthie, I love the way the lighthouse 'pops' out of the browns and blues!

Thanks for all the kind comments about my pics this month. You are all very kind.

John -- Although I primarily shoot with a Canon D30, the current pic was taken with a Nikon D300 and a Nikon 70-200 lens. I could look up the actual specs if you're interested but, in all honesty, I took this particular photo in automatic mode. The lens flare around the lighthouse was complete luck. I didn't notice it until I downloaded the camera.

I have a couple more from Billy, I will use them in the future.. Laura's image she sent me we be next on this Friday for the start of October..

Thanks for the kind words. I just got lucky. Due to my sister Nancy's determination we took the sunset cruise on a Port Washington water taxi. I was getting discouraged by the NY traffic and thought we couldn't get there in time. So she gets half the credit. She keeps me moving to the next place ...and I slow her down to experience where we are. We make a great team that way.

We visit this lighthouse in late June annually after our Corvette Show in Illinois.
The beach is crowded, people fishing from the pier, couples walking hand-in-hand, boats in the marinas, sailboats on Lake Michigan, and Chicago skyline off in the distance.

Dave H and I thought we should share the Old Michigan City Lighthouse lit up for Christmas last year for the Masthead this December... Our official relighting of the lighthouse for this year is this Saturday.. Dave shot these image last January after a snowstorm moved through...

Every Winter, for about 5 minutes, I think it would be nice to be back in the Midwest where it snows.

After the storms we had last winter, I believe you would think that for far less than five minutes.

For a start on your 5 minutes John, we awoke to a light snow this morning here in Indy.. The best kind of snowfall, it's on the yard and deck but not sticking on the streets..

I love having four different seasons, including of course snow in the winter..

Robert, it is a good photo that Paul made better.

We don't seem to have snow the first weekend in December when we light the light. (Well, at least a couple times we had a lot of snow Sunday morning . . .) January 2nd we had a nice load of snow here, and when I checked Michigan City they also had received a nice snowfall. Having nothing better to do, it was time for a road trip.

At our fall work day, we added more lights to help better define the outline. It will be interesting to see how they add to the look of the light. After a lot of years of having little light and being at the corner of the park, we instigated the light being lit in 2001. Then last year the society bought the new LED lights at our prompting, and we spent a couple days getting them placed . I personally believe that after too many years of being overlooked when Washington Park is all lit up in December, the Old Michigan City Light has taken its proper place as the star of the show. All of us in the Hoosier Lighthousing Club are very proud of the part we have played in the effort.

And proud you should be!

I've never visited Boston Harbor, but because it is on an island, there's water all around it.

My guess is a sunrise! From my visits to Boston it appears to be taken from the mainland thus I would think is Hilari is looking east! Only a guess!!!

It is Cheboygan Crib Light, MI, this lighthouse was designed, sculpted, molded and painted at the 2005 Reunion. Everybody attending had a chance to make a touch in the sculpting of the lighthouse..
