What was it like in the early days of LighthouseKeepers.com?

Someone introduced me to the "Way Back Machine" a few years ago. Isn't it great fun? And at times, actually useful.

John
I remember the early days with LighthouseKeepers.com.
I didn’t have a computer at the time and had to use the computer at our library at work to read the latest news on Harbour Lights.

I use to look forward for Mondays Morning when you would update.
I remember the excitement when you announced the rotated top on Gray's Harbour. Harbour lights had all ready peaked in popularity and collectors were looking for excitement like the good old days. Like the mold breaking with Assateague.

If I remember right, a collector on AOL announced that they were buying a Gray's Harbour off a website and noticed that the picture on the site had shown a Gray's Harbour with a rotated top. The following Monday you had the whole story on LighthouseKeepers.com and the last great hunt for a rare Harbour Lights variation began.

Drill down far enough and you'll find...

Most of the usual suspects are still about. BuyGlass was Beaverella's name from AOL. Polly I'm cluesless about - if you're still here, my apollygies - JC will remember.

You can tell by the message counts that things were just underway. The graphic shows the CF in its first month.

This Forum (FATF) has toodled along at an approx. 1 message per day clip for the past 6 years - and its just a meta forum.

By December other new forums opened up; the First Message in The FSB posted 12-04-1998 02:30 AM.

Thanks Doctor Memory...

... It seems like soooo long ago, but I actually remember things BEFORE the Forums. My son, now 19, was born 11 years BF. Nixon resigned in 1974, a full 14 years BF. Who knew then that we would be spending our free (?!) time hunched over a PC exploring the electronic world -- wide web.

Now that is really going "way back".

Thanks for the memories!
