This is a suprise! I don't believe the Horseshoe Range lights are high on the priority list of many collectors, like the constantly requested Chop lights in Mass, but they are kindy neat with their quirky architecture. (Heck, I never even heard of the Horseshoe range lights until now.)
I will probably get them.

I do have one question though, is HL on a "range light" thing?

We have been seeing a lot of range lights in the past 2 years between LE, society pieces, and event pieces.

Hum, I realize a lot of the most recognizable and famous lights have already been created, but I can still think of numerous lights that are not range lights that could be done. Just my 2 thoughts....

Looking forward to seeing pictures of the actual products!

Cape Annie's now have pictures of these pieces on their website.

The rear range piece looks nice !!! I hope it is similar in scale to the last couple CS exclusives.

Now I'm just wondering when we will be able to order our renewal on the HL website???

Tony sent these images of the Horseshoe Reef pieces. A little washed out, but they do look cool.

Christopher, range lights seem to me to be a logical pair to use for the society gift and redemption pieces. By nature one is normally small, making it a great gift piece. The rear range lights make nice sized redemption pieces. The Chop lights are fairly similar in size and appearance and would be better suited to being produced as traditoinal LE's.

I also was surprised and never heard of it before. I am planning on getting it because it is neat looking and it is from my birth state Penn.
I see the reasoning behind the society piece and redemption piece.

First of all, connect the free gift with the one that has to be purchased. In this particular case it is the front and rear range. The collector most likely will purchase a society piece (Rear Range) to match their free gift (Front Range).

Second make a light that really catches the collector’s attention. It may be better for HL to sell unheard of neat and unusual lights instead of the more popular common style lights.

Very Impressive for lights that most of us had never heard of before. Looks like two winners to me!!

Don't give up on the Chops. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and I plan on keeping up the squeaking for the CHOPS!

Okay...it's from the same place as last year, and I still want the Chops (09-10! 09-10!), but...

Wow, those are cool. cool

I'll definitely be getting my order in when I can...I think that this might top last year's Society pieces for "wild range lights."

Hopefully the quirkiness will help to sell them, too!

But...hopefully we'll venture beyond the Delaware next year. Like, a few hundred miles northeast, and a little ferry ride...

Impressive... If anything, Harbour Lights is known for doing something unique. These are unique . Besides, I've got all the others.

I do like the architecture even though I am not familiar with them. I'll gladly add them to our collection.

Re: 2008-2009 Collectors' Society - 04/08/08 07:16 PM

I actually suggested the rear range light to Tony in his request for suggestions about a month ago. However, based on the photograph that appears in Guiding Lights of the Delaware River & Bay by Jim Gowdy (the same photo that Dennis has linked to, but much larger) the rear range lighthouse is not white. The lighthousekeeper in the photo is obviously wearing a white shirt, and the lighthouse and keeper's home are even close to being the same tone.

But I will get both because I feel in love with this lighthouse when I saw it in Gowdy's book.
