NJLHS Raffle - 04/10/01 02:12 PM

Here's some information about our annual Lighthouse Preservation Raffle.

The NJLHS Annual Preservation Raffle is underway! Tickets were mailed the week of 3/12/01. This year, as last year, the raffle is offering ten prizes with an extra special first prize and incentive to reach out beyond the lighthouse community with the tickets. A lighthouse quilt, featuring Sandy Hook, Town Lights, Sea Girt, Barnegat, Absecon, Hereford Inlet and Cape May lighthouses is being offerred as the first prize. Each block of the quilt was hand sewn and assembled by a member of NJLHS.

Second prize is a 2-night stay for 2 at the Elms Bed & Breakfast in Camden, Maine, with a weekend lighthouse cruise. Third Prize is a 2-night stay for 2 at the Saugerties Lighthouse on the Hudson River at Saugerties, New York. 4th Prize is a gift certificate to the Lighthouse in Dennis, Mass.; 5th Prize is a $150 gift certificate from Lighthouse Depot, Wells, Maine. 6th & 7th prizes are framed and matted prints of Navesink and Cape May Lighthouses by artists Steve Harrington. 8th prize is a Harbor Lights miniature of "La Caruna;" 9th prize is a Donna Elias print "Winter's Light - Absecon;" 10th prize is a $30 gift certificate for NJLHS merchandise locker.
The drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 23, 2001 at the Twin Lights of Navesink, Highlands, NJ 07732. Winners need not be present, but all prizes must be claimed within 30 days. Tickets are $1.00 each and proceeds benefit the NJLHS Preservation Fund. Tickets may be obtained from NJLHS members.[ID # 54-5-32930 License #RA 1317-01-02].

I've seen pictures of the Quilt and it is a work of art. I tried to post one here, but it can be seen at the NJLHS website http://njlhs.burlco.org/events.htm#4

If anyone is interested in tickets please send me an email at wheland@juno.com.

Thanks in advance .

Re: NJLHS Raffle - 06/23/01 11:51 PM

Well, the meeting was today and i just got home.

I'm sorry to say no one who purchased tickets thru me won any of the prizes in the raffle- including me.

We had far flung winners- New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania as well as NJ were represented.

Only 3 of the winners were present.

Thanks to all who purchased tickets thru me, or elsewhere. Better luck next year.

We raised over $8000.00 from the Raffle.

Should be a great party.

We have a large membership- about 1000 when you count all the members.

We all got 2 books of ten chances- some sold them, some did not.

At the moment the use of the money has not been decided. There are many options for it's use.

$8000 !! thats excellent. That amount of money will get some work done on a well deserved lighthouse. Let us know which lighthouse you pick.

I'll let you know as son as they tell me.

I'm not sure what the intention is. We have a several Lighthouses in NJ that are in the process of restoration or maintainence work and could use a shot in the arm.
