Hoosier Lighthousing Club's at it Again!!! - 09/28/02 06:53 AM

We are gathering for breakfast at Lindos in the morning then on to the Old Michigan City Lighthouse, where we will be planting bulbs and doing a little early Fall cleanup at the lighthouse (no poison oak this time). It looks like around 26 of us will be braving the 72 degrees and sunshine forecast for tomorrow...

The Grand Door Prize (for those present only), tomorrow is a set of the Lady Lightkeepers series - all signed by Bill Younger.... all 5 lighthouses to the winning ticket.

Second prize is a Old Michigan City lighthouse (Christmas) plus other prizes including some items from the Providence Reunion donated by a fellow collector... Thanks go to _ _ _ _ _, he knows who he is for those items...

By the way a return trip for lunch at Swing Bellys is also on tomorrow's agenda..

72... sunny... at a lighthouse with friends, it just doesn't get any better than that!

"(no poison oak this time)"

By the looks of that back fence last week, you would have never known we cleared it out this past spring, The vines are putting up a good fight - we may have to regroup and attack again.

I would love to be there to help, but I'm afraid it's just a little too far away! frown

Yes indeed, Paul... sounds like a great time! I too would love to be a part of that one. The distance is a factor unfortunately. Mark... sounds like it's time to pull out some of that concentrated Roundup!

Roy with his "normal" breakfast at Lindos...

Frank demonstrates that he deserves that Wacko Badge... yep that's his egg on his pancakes...

Sue, John & Kate start off by cleaning up the grounds, while Jakers is starting on cleaning out the fountain in the background...

Harold working on the edges of the sidewalks..

John cutting off the excess grass along the sidewalk just ahead of Harold doing the edging...

Both Dave and Judy recording the bulb planting and cleanup day at the lighthouse...

Carolyn & Mark working on the flowers that will sit on the porch this Fall...

Mary brings Karen some bulbs for her to plant next to the lighthouse...

Sue demonstrating to jakers how to plant bulbs... he said this was a first for him.

Frank , Rex & Charlotte all planting Mum's at the corner of the lighthouse...

Mark is being ably assisted by Judy as they work on the Southern side of the lighthouse...

We had a Great lunch at Swing Bellys... if you look over Frank's head and a little to the right ...Michigan City Pier Light watched over us at lunch...

A lot of lighthousing stories were swapped at lunch... we also took care of a little club business.

Apparently Bill worked up a big thirst with all that planting and cleaning going on...

The results at the front corner of the lighthouse...

The anchor looks pretty nice and just wait until Spring when all of those bulbs that we planted bloom!!!

One additional image... John Tamlin (shown standing) was celebrating his first anniversary of retirement on Saturday... so what did he do at the end of the day of working at the lighthouse... he won the Grand Door Prize of the Lady Lighthouse Keepers Set..

BTW John volunteered to work as a Docent at the Old Michigan City lighthouse when he retired and he says he Loves it!!!

Now that's what I call Having Fun and doing a great service to the lighthouse community all at once. All of you deserve a great big THUMBS UP, for a job well done. Thanks for the photos and the narrative of what appears to have been w wonderful day.

We had a great day but Gloria Toering ended up with a bad case of Poisen Ivy or Oak on her face. Looks like she took a right to the left cheek. It is really swollen. Prescriptions should help to clear it up.
I hope

I sure hope Gloria gets better soon... maybe we need a special branch of the club, for those who got poisoned at the lighthouse...

Sorry to hear about Gloria. Either goes to prove she was working harder than Jake (since he didn't acquire poisoning) or she was somewhere she shouldn't have been. That poison oak has spread and multiplied in unbelievable amounts. Hopefully they will be able to get the Port Authority to get it under control since it is coming from their side of the fence. Hopefully Gloria's prescriptions work quickly! Maybe we will just have to have everyone get a posion whatever innoculation before our next work day!

Get well quickly, Gloria.
