"Mid-Atlantic HL Club" - 02/19/00 10:09 PM

The Club's 2nd meeting will be held on Thursday, March 16th, 7:00 PM at my home. We are a small, dedicated group just getting this thing off the ground....but we have alot of fun. We're growing is size and may have to begin holding our meetings in a larger facility, soon. Our feature video in March is "Move Of The Century" featuring the Cape Hatteras relocation. Everyone wishing to attend can call me at 540-638-2209.

Congratulations, Brent, on the news of your fairly new club. It sounds like the club is growing quickly. Be sure to read my posting and/or reply on this FORUM about our NELL club in New England, where I have listed some of the ideas we have used and which may benefit your club. I will be glad to give you any tips I can. One idea I suggest now to all clubs is to establish a Resource File, for entering any and all ideas referring to lighthouses, speakers, historians, slide lectures, cruises, etc. etc. that you and other members come across from newspapers, local magazines, announcements on radio or tv. It is easier to dip into a file for a club program idea than to rack one's brains trying to think what might work for the next meeting. Our club covers 6 states, and we rotate between them, so we really have to search out any and all ideas for 6 different sites.

Thanks "Ladylightkeeper".....I appreciate the information and will follow-up on checking out NELL. 'Sounds to me like you've got a great thing going up there. Maybe sometime in the near future I'll ask if I can attend one of your meetings. 'Sure would be nice to see how the "pros" do it. .....thanx again.

Brent,

Happy to see another new club forming. The start of a new club can be quite an undertaking. We are just starting our 2nd year and I recall the first as being quite hectic; but definitely rewarding.

Best of luck on your club; please keep us posted of your success!

Brent, Good to see another Harbour Lights Club coming up. I wish you all the success. Your meeting sounds like it will be a great time. Keep us posted on your meetings. FYI for one of your future meetings. At one of our club meetings, We have everyone bring a lighthouse postcard with their name on the back. Put them all into a box, have someone draw a card. The person whos name is drawn wins all the postcards. New postcards for their collection.

Thanks Polly & Jim, I appreciate the words of encouragment. Jim.....I like your idea about the LH postcards...we'll have to try that. Now...I've got a question. Do you folks try to keep your membership size at a certain level....or....are you simply letting it grow? I've heard of some clubs which are relatively small (and they prefer to keep it that way) while others have grown tremendously. I see a "plus" either way. If you would, give me your thoughts....thanx

Brent,

While our club is still new we don't have a need to worry about getting too big. My feel is, the more the merrier!
