Cape Canaveral - 12/26/10 07:39 PM

The cape canaveral GLOW #420 has pieces with a missing letter preceeding the serial number according to the guide. Does anyone have any idea of how many there might be out there and is there any order to the numbers? The one shown in the guide is #94, I just received #103, and when I checked the one I had in the curio it was #2327 which I didn't know was missing the letter.

The amount of “A”-less Cape Canaveral Glows would pertain to the amount of the first shipment. Usually when a mistake is found in production, HL will have it corrected on the next shipment. Since Harbour Lights didn’t keep good records back then and most of their records were lost in a computer crash, a lot of information is gone forever. The way we have information on early variations and oddities was thru diligent work of early collectors and this forum.
That said there has been minimal research done on the glows without “A” But there is other information known that can shed some light on this. We can us other variations to give us an idea on the amount made.

The Cape Canaveral Glow was issued in 1998.
The round Island variation in 1995 had around 2400 for its first run
The original Alcatraz hl407 in 1996 had around a production of 4,500
The HL Barnegat HL414 variation that came out in 1997 had a production of 4,000.
The beavertail hl188 had something around 3,600 of its first run in 1997.
My Quess would be to put the “A” –less oddity at a production of between 3,000 and 4,000.
Now if this was caught by HL on an inspection, the production number would be smaller.
The only sure way is to follow ebay and make a listing of the production numbers with-out The "A".
