ELL Shipping Update

ELL Shipping Update - 03/14/06 06:45 PM

This is somewhat of a "good news" and "not as good news" kind of post.

The good news is that Harry reported that many of our ELL had been painted when he made his recent factory visit. By now they are probably all done. Harry did note they were looking good. For those who haven't noticed any of Rich's posts, Harry did loan us the paint sample to be displayed at St. Augustine on Saturday.

The not as good news is that when completed they will become part of a container size shipment of product. This means it will probably be May or possibly early June by the time the container is full and shipped to the States. To send them on their own would have been cost prohibitive to us. While the extra wait is frustrating, having a piece that we commisioned and was done especially for us will make the wait worthwhile.

I'll keep everyone updated as we get word of when the lights are expected.

After having the Paint Sample and shooting pictures of it I assure you it is well worth the wait.. Harry has pushed the envelope while still keeping our costs down.. It would probably go for an extra $25 per lighthouse and still be a good price for the quality of what Harry has come up with for us..

Dave,

The "not so good news" is NOT bad news. I am willing to wait as long as necessary for the finished product.

By not having to absorb the extra costs of a special shipment, we will be able to give more to lighthouse preservation. And remember, the end results will be worth the extra wait. Looking at the paint sample, that will be on display at the St. Augustine Lighthouse Festival, is a work of quality that we will all be proud to say is a result of our Forums and Harbour Lights cooperation. Not to mention how happy I am that I was the one that nominated my hometown lighthouse.

We all hate the wait but we are all patient and understanding. We know the final product will be terrific. Thanks again, Rich, for nominating this lighthouse. It is a really great one!

I'm fine waiting. It's not like my life is dependant on the arrival of this HL, and if we can cut shipping costs to make larger donations, I'd rather have that. smile

With the number of lighthouses that have vanished, a little wait longer for a larger donation is OK by me.

Besides, time flies. June will be here sooner than you think.

Talked to Don Devine yesterday and he said the container with the Erie Land Lights is expected in Boston on May 14 and in WestKennebunk a couple of days later. Yahoo!
