Lighthouse Listings - 12/19/98 11:15 PM

I continue to see article indicating that there are many hundreds of lighthouses in the United States. Does anyone know of a source that lists all of the United States lighthouses, including those that no longer are standing? It seems like none of the books I've purchased contain complete listings. Before I go broke buying more incomplete sources (with dollars that need to be saved for next year's crop of HL's) I figured I'd go to the experts. Any suggestions?

There is a book of Existing U. S. Lighthouses by:
Bob & Sandra Shanklin
517 Thornhill Road
Ft. Walton Beach, Florida
32547
(904) 862-4069
This is an excellant source of existing lighthouses. As for those lighthouses which are no longer standing I know of no single book except maybe the U S Coast Guard may have a list.(though I have never seen one) Otherwise is doing what I have been doing here in N Y ---Research-Research- and more Research (especially in old US Lighthouse Service Light Lists-Which can sometimes be found in larger libraries)We have quite a few in the archives here in the State Library in Albany N Y
