What are YOU doing National Lightouse Day?

What are YOU doing National Lightouse Day? - 07/24/99 06:45 PM

Over in the Map Room, you'll see Mike Seewald has worked with the folks from Old Field NY to arrange a visit and tower climb for Sunday, August 8th -- National Lighthouse Day.

It's short notice, but here's a chance to meet with other lighthouse enthusiasts and Harbour Lights collectors in YOUR area.

If you live near a lighthouse or within an hour or two drive from one, first check with the lighthouse and see if any event is planned and determine if there would be an opportunity to visit the grounds (and optionally climb) on August 8.

Then post your lighthouse and time to meet here in this thread. Others who want to attend can post here also, so you'll know who to expect.

Don't forget your print-your-own name badge:

Mike Seewald, your enthusiasm must be contagious.

If anyone is interested in touring New Canal lighthouse and viewing Port Pontchartrain light (a.k.a. West End light) in New Orleans,

OR

viewing Southwest Reef light in Berwick, LA at the fledgling lighthouse park near Morgan City

please post your interest here and/or email me. Just click on the little envelope icon above or click here: lamar@gs.verio.net

Anyone interested in visiting Pt. Bonita or Pt. Reyes for Nat'l LH Day? It's a Sunday, so I won't have lightship duty!! Post a reply here or try clicking on the little envelope above.

I might be going to visit cape Florida, Jupiter Inlet, and Hillsboro on National Lighthouse Day. Wish I could be up at Old Field Point though.

August 8 is a travel day ending a 10 day trip to Block Island and Martha's Vineyard. I will be departing Menemsha (most of you will remember the name from the recent JFK Jr. search) that day for the trip home. I will pass Gayhead Light, Sakonnet Light, Borden Flats Light, Bristol Ferry Light, Hog Island Light, Warwick Light, Conimicut Light, Nyatt Point Light, and Pomham Rocks Light on the journey home. I will give each of them a tip of the Captain's hat in their honor on National Lighthouse Day.

Actually I'll be in Boston that weekend. My daughter will be receiving her MBA from Simmons College that Friday. Current plan is to drive out Thursday. As she and her husband are planning that her dad (my ex), his wife, our son and I all stay with them in their 2 bedroom apt, I'm not sure I want to stay around until Sunday! Maybe I'll leave Saturday and try to find Hudson(Wow)Athens on my way back.
