Charity Island LH (Mi)

Charity Island LH (Mi) - 02/26/00 11:34 PM

The lighthouse located on Charity Island (in between Lake Huron and the Saginaw Bay) has been in a severe state of disrepair for many years. I had heard that the owner of the island was planning on renovating it...does anyone know if an attempt has been made to begin such work? This is the first lighthouse that I ever visited and it has a special place in my heart. Thanks

Sure is a sad looking light, Brent!

You're right, Mombo. I haven't been back to that area in 5 years so I don't know what, if anything, has been done to improve the situation. Being "privately owned" does create problems if the owner isn't willing [or can't] do anything about it. Its been abandoned since its decommissioning in 1939 even though its been used as a point of refuge from time to time in the 40's, 50's & 60's.
