Maryland Lighthouse Challenge Sept 13 & 14th! - 08/06/03 05:24 PM

I was just wondering who is planning on doing the Maryland Lighthouse Challenge?

You can download a map and directions from The Chesapeake Society's web page...

If all goes well, we will be there. I have already worked out our route. I still need to put together a hotel and whether I want to do it in ONE day or not. eek

Carol & I will be coming. Plan on starting out on the north end (Turkey & Concord Points) and head down towards Baltimore & Fort Washington on Saturday. On Sunday will do the south end lights and cross over to finish up at Hooper Strait light at St. Michael's. Plan on staying there overnight and taking a Chesapeake Bay cruise with Captain Mike out of Tilghman Island to see ten (10) offshore lights on Monday, 9/15.

From there will mosey on up to Long Island for the Harbour Lights Regional Event on 9/20.

Dan

Hope a lot of you can make it!! laugh

Parking in downtown Baltimore always leaves a lot to be desired. Check the sports schedules to see what is happening that weekend.

Everyone who has said they will be working or participating does have their Wacko Badges so they can recognize each other, right????????

There's always plenty of PAID garage parking around Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Just look for the signs. I'll be "on duty" at beautiful Hooper Strait in beautiful St. Michael's both days 8am-6pm so come on by! I'll have the Keepers Finders database of all Chesapeake Keepers 1850-1912 with me for you to explore.
P.S. Robert G. - I expect you're at POINT Lookout rather than CAPE Lookout for the Maryland Challenge wink

The Orioles will be out of town, but the Ravens play the Browns downtown at 1:00 Sunday.

Maybe I'll do the northern lights on Saturday (starting downtown....early) and the southern lights Sunday.

There is a parking garage in the Galleria building across from the Pratt Street Pavilion downtown. It is close to the lighthship.

I had planned on doing it with my traveling companion, Beaconfollower, but Beaconfollower is deserting NY for VA and will be in the middle of her move at that time. So it is out for us this year. You will all have to share your experiences and pictures with those of us less fortunate. frown

Dave reminds us...

Please do wear those badges...and any other type of identifying gear cool It will be a pleasure to meet the faces behind the posts!

I'll wear mine, and will probably have a mixture of OBLHS & Chesapeake Society clothing...and then there are the various and essential pins! laugh

My only problem with a Challenge format is...trying not to spend too much time at any one light! That is so..ooooo hard!

I'm looking forward to the event, getting to the lights again, seeing many familiar faces...and meeting new ones!

Brent...I'm ready!
