Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse Transfer Ceremony to take place May 1!

Henry Gonzalez of the Chesapeake Chapter of the USLHS, last night requested that we go ahead and post the following notice. The NPS will be doing a press release, but not until a couple of days prior to the ceremony. Because of the time frame, the NPS has appproved the following notice to be posted...

The National Park Service has completed the application review process and all issues have been addressed to their satisfaction. They are now finalizing the various federal government approvals, and we are planning a transfer ceremony for May 1st at the Annapolis City Dock, in conjunction with the Maritime Heritage Festival that will take place there that weekend. Dignitaries from the Department of the Interior, the National Park Service, the General Services Administration, and the Coast Guard will be invited to attend, along with the Governor, US Senators and Congressmen, state representatives, and the Mayor of Annapolis.

So mark your calendars and plan to attend. This will be an exciting milestone for the lighthousing community.

Wish I could make it but I'll be out on a Chesapeake Bay lighthouse cruise that day. Hope all goes well!

Shirin, just think...you get to pass by Thomas Point Shoals on the day of it's transfer...that's pretty cool! Maybe you can bring confetti and airhorns to celebrate. Not sure if the crew would like that though... :rolleyes:

This is wonderful. The CCUSLHS is getting ownership, right? The perfect organization. if I am allowed to, I may go and work on it. Gotta get into PPM!

Shirin, why don't you hijack the Rudy Thomas (I'm assuming you are doing the Chapter Cruise that day)and motor it in to the City Dock for the celebration.

Well, the CCUSLHS cruise passes by Thomas Point so I'll be all set!

And Greg, the City of Annapolis would own the light but lease it to the CCUSLHS at no cost.
