Laura, the members of the CF helped in a small way. Using proceeds from the original CF piece (Erie Land Light) we donated $250 to the committee working on the project. Nice to see that they have completed the work. Too bad Paul didn't know about it in time to drive by and get some pictures.

Any CF members live in the area? Maybe someone can take a small road trip!

Dave called me last night to find out my location. We were spending the night about 1 hour West of the location of the Oak Orchard Lighthouse not to far to back track for the Forums and shoot some images of the progress..

Your wish is my command!!

Very interesting construction on the light. Pretty location, hope it works as a tourist attraction. Looks like they have done a nice job with the whole effort. Not a big donation from us, but every little bit helps!

Paul and I wonder if they will eventually paint the new light to resemble the original. You can visit the group's website to learn a little more about the project.

Thanks to the Oak Orchard folks for their efforts. And, a special thanks to Paul and Sue for backtracking to get these great images for us to enjoy.

I was able to pick up a couple of informational papers on site that I will try and post about later when we arrive home as they are still in the car. One was a 'name on a brick' money raising project as they aren't done needy funds.. They other has Society information and some history of the construction going on..

Hi everyone! I'm on the Oak Orchard Lighthouse Committee and we thank CF for your donation and support, helping to resurrect our lighthouse. Yes, we will be painting the lighthouse historically correct, using a linseed oil-based paint. We're waiting for GLLKA to advise us on the correct color. We have records that it was white on top, brown on the bottom - we're seeking guidance on what "brown" that might have been. We're lucky to have the original fuel oil house to bring back to the site. We still have lots to do, including a memorial walkway paved with personalized bricks ($50) and featuring a compass rose, an 1812 Bicentennial Art of Peace Children's Garden that we'll have ready for the 2012 Canadian/US celebration and will feature plants conducive to our migratory birds and native to that time in history, and last but not least - a maritime museum. Our little community here in Orleans County, NY, is very excited for what it has accomplished here. We're on the Seaway Trail, between the Braddock Point Lighthouse and the 30 Mile Point Lighthouse, Route 98, Point Breeze. Please don't miss us when traveling the trail! Here's the GPS: 14357 Ontario St., Kent, NY 14477. (www.oakorchardlighthouse.org) Hope to see you!!!

Wow, nice recontruction. I like the natural oak color of the wood, which is fitting for the light.

Peg, when available, please provide additional information about the memorial bricks. I am sure I am not the only one that would be interested in donating a brick.

Paul...thanks so much for back tracking to provide us with these great pictures!

I don't know how I missed this. Julia will now have a local lighthouse to call her own and a brick to prove it!

Serendipitous that Stan and I are taking a day trip on Wednesday to see this light and the Three Sisters of Oneida Lake. Was hoping to get a shot of the brick we purchased awhile back, but that'll have to be another trip. Getting to see this replica and the new one (Clover Island Light) in Kennewick, WA on our CA/OR/WA trip in April has made this a very good year for lighthousing thus far.

I think I saw a small lighthouse sign off the highway pointing toward it. I said to my son we have to check this out. We had a long day at Niagara Falls so it will have to wait until next visit.
