Hi everyone! I'm on the Oak Orchard Lighthouse Committee and we thank CF for your donation and support, helping to resurrect our lighthouse. Yes, we will be painting the lighthouse historically correct, using a linseed oil-based paint. We're waiting for GLLKA to advise us on the correct color. We have records that it was white on top, brown on the bottom - we're seeking guidance on what "brown" that might have been. We're lucky to have the original fuel oil house to bring back to the site. We still have lots to do, including a memorial walkway paved with personalized bricks ($50) and featuring a compass rose, an 1812 Bicentennial Art of Peace Children's Garden that we'll have ready for the 2012 Canadian/US celebration and will feature plants conducive to our migratory birds and native to that time in history, and last but not least - a maritime museum. Our little community here in Orleans County, NY, is very excited for what it has accomplished here. We're on the Seaway Trail, between the Braddock Point Lighthouse and the 30 Mile Point Lighthouse, Route 98, Point Breeze. Please don't miss us when traveling the trail! Here's the GPS: 14357 Ontario St., Kent, NY 14477. (
